Multiple retro hardware companies are pulling out of the US market

    Qualcomm

At least two different retro game hardware companies have stopped shipments to the United States in response to Trump’s tariffs, citing the risk of delays and lost packages. Last week, Retrotink announced it would temporarily end its US orders on April 28, and now Anbernic has followed suit with an updated shipping policy.

Retrotink CEO Mike Chi said, “Due to lack of guidance on how tariffs will be collected starting May 2nd, we’ve made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend US shipment.” He points out that there is some reserve stock in the United States, so you might still be able to buy Retrotink devices for a limited time. “We also expect that this will be resolved eventually – but it is impossible to say when or how,” Chi said.

Anbernic updated its shipping policies to reflect a similar sentiment. “Due to changes in U.S. tariff policies, we will be suspending all orders shipping from China to the United States starting today. We strongly recommend prioritizing products shipped from our U.S. warehouse, which are currently not affected by import duties and can be purchased with confidence.”

Again, the company doesn’t seem to feel these are permanent changes. The policy says, “As soon as we receive confirmed updates regarding import duties, we will promptly inform our customers and publish our revised policy on the website.”

The tariffs have had a far-reaching impact on the gaming industry. Although the Nintendo Switch 2 remained the same price as first announced, several of its accessories and related items have seen a price hike. Other companies like Razer announced pauses on its products to the United States for the same reason. While some companies are finding workarounds or ways to maintain supply without increasing costs, others have made the decision to withdraw from the market until economic conditions become more predictable.

Retro-inspired Halloween, Evil Dead platformers coming this October — with a little twist

    RetroRealms Announcement Trailer

Remember when Boss Team Games announced it was working on two games based on the 1978 slasher classic Halloween yesterday? Well, the studio followed up on that news today by revealing one of those games is a 16-bit action platformer, and it’s coming out in October.

Two Game Boy-inspired handhelds will hit the market soon

There are two new retro handhelds on the market. Ayaneo, the company behind many, many handheld consoles for what seem like every gaming niche, revealed the Game Boy-inspired Ayaneo Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro on Wednesday, opening the door for more Android and game emulation options.

The Pocket DMG is the one that most resembles a classic Game Boy, although it’s obviously a more advanced machine. It features a 3.92-inch OLED screen, a 6,000mAh battery, and a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chip. All of this to say is that it’s decently powerful, will hopefully get long battery life, and the games will look excellent. It’ll also weigh only 9.8 ounces, so it’s super portable and won’t strain your wrists for long play times.

Your favorite video game is retro now

    What is a retro game?

Back in the 2000s — at the height of The Angry Video Game Nerd’s popularity and the genesis of throwback games like Cave Story and Mega Man 9 — that question seemed straightforward. It was a term used to describe games from the Atari 2600 and NES eras. Two decades later, that question is much more challenging to answer. We are as far from the first episode of AVGN as that video was from the launch of the Famicom in Japan. Comedy videos are being made about how old Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is. Xbox is asking players on X (formerly Twitter) if they’re nostalgic about game franchises that all started in 2000 or later.
