    Casio launches hand-forged G-Shock MRG-B5000HT with striking hammertone finish – NotebookCheck.net News

Casio has officially launched the limited edition MRG-B5000HT, featuring a special “tsuiki” or hammered texture on its titanium bezel and band. Each of the 500 pieces is hand-forged by a single master artisan in Japan, and uses an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating.

The recent rumours around a new square MR-G series G-Shock are finally confirmed, with the official launch of the limited-edition MRG-B5000HT. The watch sports a ‘tsuiki’ or hammertone pattern on its bezel and band, which are not just made of an extra hard titanium alloy but also finished with a diamond-like carbon (aka DLC) coating for extra scratch-resistance. It also uses a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating for maximum durability.

G-Shock’s MR-G lineup is reserved for ultra-premium designs that feature special finishes inspired by traditional Japanese craftsmanship, and complex, multi-component structures for the case.

Like other MR-G models, the MRG-B5000HT has an intricately-shaped case made of 25 interlocking pieces that provide shock-resistance using spring-like components. This is vastly different from the single-piece cases with resin inserts found in its affordable models, like the classic square GWM5610-1 and the “Casioak” GA-B2100-1A. For contrast, this watch uses a copper-coloured finish on some of those pieces, the screws and the screw-lock case back.

The star of the show, however, is of course the unique texture, which comes from the traditional ‘tsuiki’ method of shaping metal by hammering. This means that even though a single master artisan will be finishing all 500 limited-run pieces, each piece will be truly unique.

The actual module used is the 3541, which includes Tough Solar (i.e. fully solar powered), Bluetooth connectivity, Multiband 6 (to sync the time with atomic clocks using radio signals) and the other usual suite of functions like world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms, etc. Thanks to the full titanium build, the weight is kept down to 112 grams.

With all their unique features, watches in the MR-G series carry proportionally hefty price-tags, and this one is no exception. The MRG-B5000HT-1JR is priced at 935,000 yen (around US$6,387) in Japan, where it will be released this August, with limited availability in other regions expected to follow.
