Back in July, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said that the iPhone 17 launch event will be held in the week of 8 September. Germany-based website iPhone-Ticker now claims to have learnt the exact date of the event from sources close to German telcos: The iPhone 17 will reportedly be officially announced on Tuesday, 9 September.

This would coincide with the launch date of the iPhone 16, which was unveiled on 9 September 2024 – though that was a Monday last year, rather than a Tuesday. If the information shared by iPhone-Ticker is correct, the next-generation iPhone lineup will be officially introduced in exactly 35 days, with a total of four new smartphones expected: the standard iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Whilst the base model is rumoured to finally feature a 120 Hz OLED display, many of the anticipated major upgrades – including the powerful Apple A19 Pro chip, a 48 MP telephoto camera, and an additional camera shutter button – appear to be reserved only for the “Pro” models. The iPhone 17 Air is reportedly going to measure just 5.5 mm (0.22 in) thick, but this extreme thinness comes at the cost of a modest 3,000 mAh battery and a single rear camera. Alongside the new iPhones, Apple is expected to announce the Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, and a new Watch SE during the event. Meanwhile, a new Apple TV 4K and the AirPods Pro 3 could also launch on the same day.
