According to CEO Sam Altman, GPT-5 offers a transformative user experience that feels “like talking to a Ph.D.-level expert.” Built as a unified system, GPT-5 dynamically decides when to respond quickly and when more in-depth reasoning is needed, leveraging a seamless combination of response models. This behind-the-scenes “router” streamlines decision-making so users no longer need to pick the appropriate model manually.

The model delivers significant gains in performance across multiple domains, outperforming previous versions in math, science, coding, healthcare, and writing tasks. It achieves state-of-the-art coding capabilities, generating complex front-end UIs or even games from a single prompt. Reliability has also seen a major boost, with factual errors reduced by up to 80 percent compared to earlier reasoning models. GPT-5 is now available to all ChatGPT users, with generous usage for free and Plus-tier accounts.
