Retro DS: MagicX announces new retro gaming handheld for Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS emulation fans – NotebookCheck.net News
MagicX has just released the Zero 40 for those wanting to emulate Nintendo DS games. Now, the company has presented the Retro DS, a comparatively powerful dual-display gaming handheld that aims to attract those wanting to play Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS games.
Of those, the Retro DS is the company’s first true dual-screen device. In a recent Discord post, MagicX claims that the Retro DS features a 4.1-inch primary display that outputs at 1,280 x 720 pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Meanwhile, the smaller secondary display is said to measure 3.4-inches diagonally with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 960 x 720-pixel native resolution.
As its name implies, MagicX appears to have created the Retro DS with Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS emulation in mind. However, the Retro DS’ primary display is slightly wider than those on Nintendo’s 2DS and 3DS systems. Moreover, MagicX has not indicated that the Retro DS supports stereoscopic images.
Therefore, the device may be restricted to emulating Nintendo 3DS games in 2D mode. Nonetheless, its MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset should make it comparatively powerful for a small Android gaming handheld. Seemingly, the Retro DS will be the first device that MagicX releases next year if its roadmap is anything to go by.
