Surprises from start to finish – third-person shooter for $5 instead of $50 in Steam Sale – NotebookCheck.net News

Strange Brigade is currently available on Steam for just $5 with a 90% discount, valid until September 1. (Image source: Steam)

In Strange Brigade, you join an elite special unit in 1930, facing not ordinary enemies but the dark magic of a ruthless witch queen and her undead hordes. The adventure is currently available on Steam for only $5 – a steep 90% off its regular price.

Four thousand years ago, the mighty witch queen Seteki was entombed and sealed away. In 1930, her crypt is disturbed by a reckless archaeologist, unleashing dark powers upon the world. To counter the threat, the British Empire deploys the Strange Brigade – a fearless special unit sent to stop Seteki and her monstrous horde of mummies, skeletons and other mythical terrors.

Strange Brigade is a fast-paced third-person shooter focused on co-op action, where up to four players can team up to tackle the campaign together. Each character wields unique weapons and special abilities that can be upgraded over time. Beyond the intense gunplay, players will face puzzles and deadly traps such as spinning blades and spike pits, adding variety and rewarding those who explore their surroundings.

As you progress through the game, you will discover relics that, when combined with the souls of fallen enemies, unlock powerful amulet abilities. Along the way, special weapons and coins can be found to upgrade your gear. According to German gaming magazine GamePro, this mix of action, puzzle-solving, treasure hunting and light upgrade mechanics creates a highly enjoyable gameplay loop. The magazine also praised the story for its unexpected twists and engaging moments, highlighting that Strange Brigade “manages to surprise from start to finish.”

GamePro praised the cohesive art design as well as the impressive variety of enemies and environments. The magazine also commended Strange Brigade’s strong replay value, fueled by hidden relics, multiple difficulty settings and extra modes such as Horde and Score Attack. While the game excels in co-op, the single-player experience was described as underwhelming and noticeably less enjoyable. The reviewers further noted room for improvement in weapon feedback and mentioned some technical issues.

Despite some criticisms, GamePro awarded Strange Brigade a solid 82 out of 100. On Steam, player feedback is “Very Positive”, with 84% of roughly 10,800 reviews rating the game favorably. Opinions are more divided on Metacritic, where the title holds a Metascore of 68 and a User Score of 6.5.

    90% discount on Steam

Strange Brigade, developed by Rebellion Developments, was released on August 28, 2018. The third-person shooter normally sells for around $50 on Steam, but is currently available for just $5 thanks to a 90% discount running until September 1. According to SteamDB, the game has only been cheaper once before, during a 95% discount in October 2023.
