Xiaomi presented its new Xiaomi 17 series phones last week in China as the first devices to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The phones appear to be doing quite well sales-wise, too, according to company CEO President Lu Weibing. 

As shared by the executive on his Weibo page, Xiaomi has now sold over a million units of the new Xiaomi 17 series in China. The phones went on sale on September 27, so it appears Xiaomi has attained this milestone in just one week, with the post confirming that this was achieved faster than the Xiaomi 15 series managed last year. 

The Xiaomi 17 series has received most of its media attention thanks to the rear screen it sports, a feature the company first attempted with the Mi 11 Ultra back in 2021, but is widely acclaimed to be better implemented on the new phones. This feature is exclusive to the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, however, and word on the grapevine indicates that both phones may never be released globally—unlike the vanilla Xiaomi 17. 

This was previously reported and has now seemingly been further affirmed by leaker Chunvn8888 on X. According to the typically reliable tipster, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the larger Xiaomi 17 Pro Max are currently not planned to be sold on the global market, which wouldn’t be surprising as recent Pro models in the series have also been exclusive to the Chinese market.
