Barcelona-based indie studio Epictellers Entertainment, which launched its first-ever project, Starfinder: Afterlight, jumped into the limelight with a Kickstarter campaign that achieved its $87,179 funding goal in just 80 minutes after going live on October 7, 2025.

Starfinder: Afterlight is a turn-based CRPG, set in Paizo’s science-fantasy Starfinder universe, which was introduced in 2017. The Kickstarter campaign quickly zoomed past its pledged milestone, reaching $200,000 in the first few hours, and surpassing more than $470,000 pledged by 7,900 backers and climbing.

With 26 days to go until the campaign closes on November 6, the project described by developers as “Divinity: Original Sin meets Guardians of the Galaxy” shows no signs of stepping off the gas pedal.

Epictellers was established in 2023 with a focus on emotionally resonant storytelling and has already secured self-funding for Starfinder: Afterlight’s core development, with the Kickstarter campaign positioned as a supplement to expand upon features and some refinement, like better voice acting and refinement, leading up to the game’s release.

The campaign offers backers rewards, including an opportunity to join a Closed Beta and shape the game’s development along the way.

Other benefits include a Digital Steam key, Akitonian in-game dice, a custom Discord role, an exclusive KS Wallpaper, Collector’s Player Core Rulebook, Enemy Miniatures STL Pack, Companion Miniatures STL Pack, and an additional copy to bring someone along to the Pact Worlds.

Voice direction comes from Neil Newbon, the award-winning actor behind Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3. The game is set to feature multiple difficulty modes, from a forgiving Story option to punishing Nightmare mode. 

Co-founder Ricard Pillosu spoke in a press release:

“We’re thrilled to unveil Starfinder: Afterlight in partnership with Paizo. This marks the beginning of a journey we want to take alongside Starfinder fans everywhere.”

Looking ahead, Starfinder: Afterlight is aiming to head to Steam in early access in Q2 2026, with Act 1’s 10 to 15 hours of content, allowing the community to provide feedback and shape the game’s full release slated for 2027. 

This monumental success in record time funding just goes to show the rising demand and allure of narrative-driven CRPGs following the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, Starfinder has grand expectations to meet as Pillosu admits the team feels “more scared about huge success than a bit of failure.”
