Shopping for someone else’s house is intimidating. What housewarming gifts can you give that they won’t already have? What’s something they’ll actually use instead of just adding to their shelf clutter? There are a few easy classics that folks love to gift—who doesn’t love a candle or another little houseplant?—but there are also a lot of really useful, beautiful gifts you can give instead. I’ve lived in eight apartments in the past 10 years and bought my first home last year—here are the housewarming gifts that are getting daily use in my house.

WIRED’s Gear team has personally tested and vetted everything that appears in our gift guides. Speaking of, check out the rest of our gift guides, including gifts for outdoorsy people, book lovers, new parents, and STEM-loving kids.

Updated October 2025: We’ve added new gifts from Flamingo Estate, Great Jones, and Bedsure, and we’ve updated this guide with the latest pricing for gifts we still love.

    • An Eye-Catching Container

I’m a big fan of Great Jones’ cookware (and I’m not alone in that sentiment here at WIRED), and what I especially like is how the brand has colorful yet affordable options. The latest that caught my eye is the Spout, a beautiful glass vessel made for pouring your favorite kitchen liquid. It’s a fun fit whether you want something pretty for your olive oil pours or have a special oil or dressing you want a dressed-up container for. I’m currently dreaming of restocking the port vinaigrette I bought years ago and filling the Spout with it (and pairing this with a special dressing or oil can be a fun way to round out the gift!).

    • A Handy Little Blender

      Ninja

      Blast Portable Blender

I was not expecting to love this tiny, cordless blender as much as I do. It takes around an hour to charge via USB-C, and the battery doesn’t last very long—about as long as it takes to make two smoothies. But we recently had to do an emergency restock on frozen fruit and protein powder because it’s more convenient than dragging out the Vitamix every morning. It has an 18-ounce capacity, which is pretty big, but my 7-year-old can drink from it easily, sadly. The lid and container are dishwasher-safe, and the blending is remarkably thorough and effective—no frozen berries getting stuck, no large chunks left. If you have an early commute, you can even blend and grab on your way to the car. —Adrienne So

    • Beautiful Coasters

      East Fork

      Glass Cloud Coasters

Everyone’s home needs a good set of coasters. Not only can they keep your surfaces safe, but a cute set like these Glass Cloud Coasters from East Fork Pottery also make a fun style statement on whatever tabletop they sit on. They come in two gorgeous sets of colors—Day, with a white and blue cloud, and Sunset, with a purple and orange cloud—and are a fun statement for any surface. They’re a little slim, but still wide enough for my coffee cups and even my massive Owala. They’ve held up great after a year of drinks have sat upon them during my working hours, with no scratches or dings to speak of.

    • A Power Cleaner

      SonicPower

      Electric Scrubber

Moving into a new home always feels like I’m in the cleanest place I’ve ever lived. Fresh paint! A clean shower! A stove that isn’t covered in burned rice remains! But it’s work to keep it that way. My new favorite tool to clean with is SonicPower’s Electric Spin Scrubber. It’s great to grab for shower stains and sticky sink buildup, and it comes with four different brushes so that you can pair the right brush with the right area of your home, like the hard brush for my shower floor and scour brush for the stovetop. It’s got simple controls: one button to turn it on and switch between low and high power mode, and a little screen to show how much battery life is left.

    • Fresh Sheets

    • Expanding Spice Rack

      The Container Store

      Everything Organizer Expanding 3-Tier Organizer

Nothing says it’s a real home like being able to see all the spices. The Container Store’s Expanding Three-Tier Organizer has three little shelves and can expand to nearly 2 feet long for plenty of room to arrange spices and jars. I don’t know about your spice shelf, but our house has a collection of hot sauces and extra containers of furikake (we can never remember if we’re running out yet) that are much easier to navigate with the three-shelf setup. It’s not an expensive item, either, but really cleans up a shelf in your pantry in a matter of minutes. It’s the only reason my spice section looks even remotely organized.

    • Shelf Expansion

      Like-it Modular Storage

Moving into a new home sounds like a magical time to get everything organized, right? I thought so, too, and then the chaos of moving in turned every closet I owned into a dumping ground. The top shelves of both my hall closet and my bedroom closet were the worst offenders. So much space, turned into haphazard piles of sweaters and random accessories. Until, that is, I added The Container Store’s Like-It modular bins and drawers to the top of my closet. You can stack them if you’ve got the height space, but I even found just two bins side by side suddenly organized sweaters that usually took up double the space. The drawers are handy too for more miscellaneous items. I’ll be adding these to every closet in the house, slowly and surely, and I’m sure any other homeowner you know would love them just as much as I do.

    • Colorful Baking Trays

If they love to bake, whether it’s homemade scones or just premade cookie dough from the grocery store (I’ve got aspirations of the former but currently have the latter in my fridge), these Great Jones baking sheets are both great for baking and fun to look at. The baking sheets come in five food-themed colors: raspberry pink, mustard yellow, broccoli green, blueberry blue, and pepper black, and can come as a half-sheet or two quarter sheets, or a set of both sizes. The two quarter sheets double nicely as little serving trays for a party.

    • High-End Essentials

      The Chef’s Kiss Gift Set

If you’re looking for something on the higher end but don’t want to just gift another bottle of wine, try the Chef’s Kiss gift set from Flamingo Estate. The maker of our favorite scented candle puts a delicious extra virgin olive oil, spicy chili olive oil, and wildflower honey into a gift-wrapped box for a splurge of essentials your favorite chef will love using. I currently can’t stop using the olive oil as a drizzle on my favorite pasta dishes.

    • A Blanket Hug

      Photograph: Bearaby

Moving is stressful. You know what can help with that? A weighted blanket. The knitted style you’ll find with popular blankets like Bearaby, our top pick in our guide to the best weighted blankets, is both great for staying comfortable and pretty to look at when it’s thrown over the couch. Bearaby’s Tree Napper is a great option, and it does a nice job of being a little cozy while keeping plenty of airflow. But I also really like Nuzzie’s Ice Knit Blanket ($239), which looks similar but has an icy touch to it thanks to the bamboo fabric used. Both have different weights they offer, and you’ll want to hit 10 percent of the new homeowner’s weight, so I recommend looking at the weight options for each to find the perfect one to buy.

    • A Stylish Shower Organizer

I’ve hated every shower organizer I’ve ever had. That is, until I saw The Spot from Quiet Town. It comes in three colors and uses a pegboard-like system, coming with three organizers, one hook, and a mirror you can attach to the organizer wherever you see fit. It’s a modern style statement in a shower organizer, something I never thought I’d find. The included organizers have enough space for one person’s various shower bottles, so if you’re gifting this to a couple, you might want to add on an extra bottle basket or two for them to fit everything on there.

But my favorite thing is how insanely long the included strap is. I have a showerhead designed for someone upward of 6 feet tall, and most shower organizers sit weirdly high off my showerhead. The Spot doesn’t have this problem thanks to the included long strap. I was able to hang mine about 22 inches below my showerhead with some extra strap to spare. It also comes with accessories to drill it into the wall if you prefer that.

    Honorable Mentions

    • Cold Picnic Bath Mats for $70: The design I have isn’t available anymore, but the rest of Cold Picnic’s bath mat lineup has similarly cool designs and should hold up just as well as mine has. After a year of use, it still feels brand-new after a run in the washing machine and dryer.
    • A bottle of wine: You really can’t go wrong with this option—they can either drink it themselves, or have it ready and on-hand for their next party or gathering.
    • A nice candle: If you’re going to gift a candle, make sure it’s a good one. Our favorite scented candle is the Heirloom Tomato Candle from Flamingo Estate ($64). If that scent isn’t speaking to you, or you’re looking to spend a little less, a personal favorite candle of mine is The Now’s Jasmine Coconut Candle ($48).
