PlayStation experiences H1 sales increase, PS5 reaches 84m in lifetime sales

Sony increases full-year forecast for games revenue, Ghost of Yōtei sells 3.3 million copies in launch month

Sony has published its latest financial results for the first half of its fiscal year, reporting significant increases in revenue for its Game & Network Services division.

The platform holder has increased its full-year forecast for games revenue as a result, citing success in its network services and game software segments.

PlayStation 5 has now sold up to 84.2 million lifetime copies, selling an additional 3.9 million units during its second quarter.

Sony also revealed the sales figures for its latest first-party title, Ghost of Yōtei, which has moved 3.3 million copies since its October 2 launch.

Here’s what you need to know:

    The numbers

    H1 (six months ended September 30, 2025)

Sony Corporation Game & Network Services

    Net sales: ¥5.7 trillion ($36.9 billion, up 3.5% year-on-year)

    Net sales: ¥2.1 trillion ($13.6 billion, up 5.2% year-on-year)

    Operating income: ¥768.9 billion ($4.9 billion, up 20.4% year-on-year)

    Operating income: ¥268.3 billion ($1.7 billion, up 31.3% year-on-year)

    Q2 (three months ended September 30, 2025)

Sony Corporation Game & Network Services

    Net sales: ¥3.1 trillion ($20.1 billion, up 5% year-on-year)

    Net sales: ¥1.11 trillion ($7.19 billion, up 3.7% year-on-year)

    Operating income: ¥429 billion ($2.7 billion, up 10% year-on-year)

    Operating income: ¥120.4 billion ($780 billion, down 13.2% year-on-year)

    The highlights

Sales increases in network services (mainly PlayStation Plus) and game software titles led growth in Sony’s G&NS segment.

Network services revenue rose 13.7% to ¥182.6 billion ($1.1 billion) compared to ¥160 billion ($1.03 billion) during the previous quarter.

Monthly active users on PS Plus also increased slightly to 119 million during the quarter, a 2.5% increase compared to 116 million during the same period last year.

Overall game software sales increased 2.7% to 2.7% to ¥629.3 billion ($4 billion) compared to ¥612.3 billion ($3.9 billion) during Q2 2024.

Breaking that down, physical software revenue rose 2.9% to ¥35.3 billion ($228.7 million), while digital software and add-on content increased 1.6% to ¥568.1 billion ($3.68 billion).

Sony has revised its sales forecast for G&NS to reflect these changes, and is now expecting ¥4.4 trillion ($28.5 billion) in revenue compared to ¥4.3 trillion ($27.8 billion) predicted in August.

There’s no change in the forecast for G&NS’s operating income, which experienced a 13.2% dip during Q2 due to “impairment losses against a portion of Bungie’s intangible and other assets in connection with Destiny 2.”

Moving on to hardware, revenue rose 5.8% to ¥230.9 billion ($1.4 billion) compared to ¥218.2 billion ($1.4 billion) during the previous quarter.

PlayStation 5 moved 6.4 million units during H1, a slight jump in sales compared to 6.2 million sold during the same period last year. 3.9 million units were sold in the three months ended September 30.

Looking at full game software sales, 80.3 million copies were sold during the second quarter compared to 77.7 million in Q2 2024.

6.3 million of these were first-party titles, boosted by its most recent release Ghost of Yōtei which has sold 3.3 million copies in 32 days.
