Goat Simulator creators reveal new studio Feeble Minds

The Coffee Stain co-founders are working on a “four player co-op soulslike roguelike” called Serpent’s Gaze

Coffee Stain co-founders Oscar Jilsén and Mikael Mård, who previously worked on the smash hits Goat Simulator and Satisfactory, have announced a new studio called Feeble Minds.

Jilsén and Mård are joined at the company by Jannik Reuterberg (composer for Satisfactory), Johan Gustafsson (former Paradox product owner and programmer manager), Sofie Irenheim (former art director at PocApp Studios), Marloes de Graaf (ex-Coffee Stain junior level designer), and Clara Lindblad Åman (who was previously an artist at Swedish developer The Bearded Ladies).

Feeble Minds was started back in 2022, but has only now been announced. Alongside news of the studio itself, the developer has revealed its debut project, the “four player co-op soulslike roguelike” Serpent’s Gaze.

“We are a bunch of friends who have been gaming together for a long time, and one type of game we’ve been missing on the market is co-op roguelikes,” said Reuterberg, the company’s CEO.

“Combining this with our great love and respect for the souls formula, we decided to develop the very game we were missing. Since then we’ve seen an increased demand for both rogue- and soulslikes, and the combination of both is still rare. We now look forward to sharing our vision with the world!”

In a post on Linkedin, CTO Gustafsson added: “Roughly three and a half years ago I made the seemingly stupid choice to suddenly leave Paradox Interactive. I hadn’t been there for long at all and the people there were so talented and nice to work with and I really loved it. But even so I left to chase my own dreams. Today I’m extremely happy to reveal that the game I’ve been working on tirelessly since then has finally made its demo debut on Steam with a proper release happening early 2026.”

Coffee Stain was founded back in 2010 and rose to massive popularity on the back of 2014’s Goat Simulator. In 2018, the studio was acquired by THQ Nordic (which later became known as the Embracer Group) for more than $34.8 million.

In 2017, Coffee Stain Publishing was established, which would go on to have great success thanks to the likes of Ghost Ship Games’ Deep Rock Galactic and Iron Gate’s Valheim – titles that have sold north of eight million and ten million copies, respectively.

In 2024, the Embracer Group announced it would split into three companies, with the Coffee Stain & Friends group consisting of Coffee Stain Studios and a number of other developers. In May this year, Embracer announced plans to spin off the Coffee Stain Group as a standalone entity by the end of 2025.

Feeble Minds is not the only new company set up by veterans of Coffee Stain; in February of this year, former staff from the Goat Simulator maker, as well as Mojang, formed new publisher Three Friends.
