Lenovo’s ThinkPad X13 G6 is compact, but keyboard and display hinges are weak points – NotebookCheck.net News

The ThinkPad X-series has a ling tradition as compact business companions. Lenovo wants to improve the mobility even further with the new ThinkPad X13 G6, but this affects the quality and both the keyboard as well as the display hinges are disappointing.

Lenovo’s new ThinkPad X13 G6 puts a bigger focus on the mobility and the Intel models without 5G weigh less than 1 kg, so the X13 is pretty much the successor to the ThinkPad X1 nano. The AMD models is slightly heavier due to the more powerful cooling unit and SKUs with integrated 5G connectivity also weigh more. Still, the new ThinkPad X13 G6 is definitely a small and compact device which is easy to carry around. Prices for the X13 start at around €1,300, so it is much more affordable than the flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

We reviewed the AMD version equipped with the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 350. Its processor performance is very good compared to immediate rivals, but the Lunar Lake equipped competitors have the edge in terms of graphics performance. The display is a low-power IPS screen with Full-HD and 60 Hz. This is okay, but we think you should at least give customers the option to configure a better screen. At least the color accuracy (full sRGB coverage) is good and picture editing is possible after a calibration.

Two aspects, however, are pretty problematic in our opinion and long-term ThinkPad users will notice them right away. The display hinges are way too loose and there is significant display wobble. The base unit could be a bit sturdier as well. Finally, and this is probably the biggest weak spot, we must criticize the keyboard. Most keys have a travel of 1.5 mm, but the overall typing experience is just average. This is a big disappointment and that even very slim laptops do not have to have compromised keyboards is proven by the current Honor MagicBook Art 14, for example. We can only repeat ourselves and hope that Lenovo will finally wake up and implement better keyboards again. Please see our comprehensive review of the ThinkPad X13 G6 for more information as well as our calibrated color profile.

I grew up with modern consumer electronics and my first computer was a Commodore C64, which encouraged my interest in building my own systems. I started working as a review editor for Notebookcheck during my dual studies at Siemens. Currently, I am mainly responsible for dealing with business laptops and mobile workstations. It’s a great experience to be able to review the latest devices and technologies and then compare them with each other.
