HUAWEI Mate X7 launches globally, Malaysia launch imminent

Huawei has officially announced the global launch of the Huawei Mate X7, expanding its premium foldable smartphone lineup beyond China and reaffirming its ambition in the high-end foldable segment. Unveiled during Huawei’s international launch event, the Mate X7 positions itself as a flagship foldable designed for productivity, creativity and everyday use, combining a large immersive display with advanced imaging, robust performance and refined durability.

At the centre of the Mate X7 experience is its expansive foldable display. The device features an 8-inch LTPO OLED inner screen paired with a 6.49-inch OLED cover display, both supporting adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz for smooth visuals and improved power efficiency. Huawei has also focused on brightness and eye comfort, ensuring the screens remain usable outdoors while reducing visual strain during extended use. When unfolded, the Mate X7 offers tablet-like real estate ideal for multitasking, media consumption and work, while the slim outer display provides a familiar smartphone experience when closed.

Powering the Mate X7 is Huawei’s latest in-house Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. This combination delivers strong performance for demanding applications, seamless multitasking and stable long-term usage. The device runs on HarmonyOS 6.0, which has been optimised for large-screen foldable devices with enhanced multi-window features, smoother animations and deeper integration across Huawei’s ecosystem.

Photography remains a key highlight of the Mate X7. The foldable flagship is equipped with a triple rear camera system led by a 50-megapixel RYYB main sensor with variable aperture and optical image stabilisation, designed to adapt to different lighting conditions with improved light intake. It is complemented by a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera offering 3.5x optical zoom, enabling versatile shooting across landscapes, portraits and long-range scenes. For selfies and video calls, the Mate X7 includes dual 8-megapixel front cameras, allowing users to capture content whether the device is folded or unfolded.

Huawei has also placed strong emphasis on durability, an area often scrutinised in foldable devices. The Mate X7 incorporates reinforced structural materials and improved hinge engineering, alongside advanced glass protection. Notably, it carries an IP58 and IP59 rating for dust and water resistance, a rare feature in foldable smartphones, adding an extra layer of confidence for daily use.

Battery performance is handled by a 5,600mAh dual-cell battery that supports 66W wired SuperCharge and 50W wireless charging. This ensures the Mate X7 can comfortably last through a full day of use while offering fast and flexible charging options to minimise downtime.

With its global launch, the Huawei Mate X7 enters international markets as a premium foldable offering, priced at around €2,099 for the 16GB + 512GB variant. As spotted on a billboard along Jalan Kuching this morning, the Huawei Mate X7 is expected to make its debut in Malaysia soon.
