GTA 6 could evolve into an MMO – NotebookCheck.net News

There are signs that GTA 6 Online could take a significant leap forward by adopting features commonly found in MMOs. This speculation was fueled by comments from MMO veteran Richard Vogel and Rockstar’s acquisition of FiveM developer Cfx.re.

GTA Online already delivers a robust multiplayer experience, though it focuses more on short, action-driven sessions than on classic role-playing structures. However, mounting evidence suggests that GTA 6 Online could shift toward a deeper MMORPG-style approach.

The speculation originates from a Wccftech interview with Richard Vogel, a developer with decades of MMO experience. Having worked on titles like Ultima Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and New World, Vogel said he’s heard from industry sources that many features planned for GTA 6 Online strongly resemble classic MMORPG mechanics.

GTA Online is already designed as a persistent online world, with regular updates, live events, and long-term progression. According to Vogel, Rockstar may be aiming to build on this by adding more defined roles, deeper social systems, and a game world that changes over time – all key features of modern MMORPGs. It’s important to note that Vogel isn’t involved in GTA 6 directly; his statements are based purely on industry experience, market observations, and internal discussions.

Rumors gained more momentum after Rockstar acquired Cfx.re in August 2023 – the team behind FiveM, a widely popular GTA 5 mod. FiveM includes structured role-playing systems with set professions like police officer or paramedic, persistent servers, and a strong focus on community-driven content. At times, it even surpassed the official GTA Online in popularity on Steam. This suggests Rockstar may be looking to use Cfx.re’s expertise to further develop its online multiplayer vision. However, neither Rockstar nor parent company Take-Two has officially confirmed any such plans.
