Hearing a static noise while charging your iPhone 17 Pro? You’re not alone
A significant number of iPhone 17 Pro users are reporting a faint but unsettling speaker hiss while charging, and the cause isn’t yet clear.

iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max users are experiencing something very unusual: a faint hissing or static-like noise coming from the phone’s speakers while charging.
According to a report by MacRumors, citing discussions on Reddit, Apple’s Community Support, and its own discussion forum, affected users are noticing a hissing sound or noise when their phone is charging (via a wired or MagSafe charging solution), and the screen is awake. Unplugging the iPhone stops the sound.
Subtle but hard to ignore once you hear it
While some users report hearing an unusual sound when playing an audio track through the iPhone 17 Pro’s speakers and lowering the volume, others claim the noise (like static from a radio) is audible when the phone is sitting idle. In fact, a couple of users have reported hearing the sound even when the iPhone isn’t charging.
While the issue isn’t widespread (at least at the moment), it is big enough to have gathered enough coverage. Some users are hearing a hissing or static sound consistently, others only randomly, while many aren’t experiencing the issue at all, suggesting it affects only a limited number of iPhone 17 Pro users.
While you might not hear the subtle hissing in a noisy environment, it may become more noticeable when you plug in your phone at night in a quiet bedroom. Even though the issue doesn’t seem to affect day-to-day operations, it raises questions about potential causes and the workarounds.
Some users have reportedly exchanged their iPhones for new ones, only to reencounter the issue. The report also mentions that Apple support is aware of the problem and has forwarded it to its engineers.
If the issue is related to a software fault, such as power regulation levels or audio driver malfunctioning, an OTA update could quietly resolve it. However, if that’s not the case, the company should provide free replacements. So far, Apple hasn’t acknowledged the issue.
At launch, the iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro also had specific camera issues that Apple later fixed.

Your Galaxy S26 could make satellite calls, Samsung hints
Samsung’s Exynos Modem 5410 touts LTE DTC for voice calls plus two other satellite modes, suggesting a bigger off-grid safety net.
Samsung is laying groundwork for a potential jump in Galaxy S26 satellite connectivity, based on how it is describing the Exynos Modem 5410.
The company says the modem supports three different satellite network types, and it ties one of them to voice calling, which points to something more practical than a last resort satellite message.
Here’s how Samsung’s in-house GPU could improve your next Galaxy smartphone
Your next Galaxy might get a smarter, more efficient GPU
Samsung is planning a major pivot for its smartphone chips, with reports suggesting the company will finally launch a processor with its own, fully in-house GPU by 2027. According to a report, Samsung’s System LSI team is currently hard at work on a next-generation chip, tentatively called the Exynos 2800. This chip is expected to feature a graphics unit built entirely on Samsung’s own architecture, marking a clean break from its long-standing reliance on outside blueprints.
