Splitgate: Arena Reloaded developer says Steam player stats “don’t show the full picture”

But data from Alinea Analytics shows that the re-released free-to-play shooter has failed to find an audience on Xbox and PlayStation, too

The developer of the recently released Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, 1047 Games, has responded to reporting regarding the project’s performance on Steam.

In a statement published on social media, the company has argued that these stats do not tell the full story. Within the shooter’s first five days on sale, 1047 Games said that it brought in 150,000 players and boasted that “retention is the best it’s ever been”.

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is a re-release of Splitgate 2 after developer 1047 Games opted to put the project “back to beta” after a less-than-stellar launch.

The free-to-play shooter launched on December 17, and following its release, the game hit a peak of 2,293 concurrent players on Steam – per SteamDB data – though this has quickly dropped off.

At the time of writing, 556 people are playing the shooter on Steam, with a 24-hour peak of 1,070. When Splitgate 2 was originally released in June 2025, the game reached a high of 25,785 concurrent players on Steam.

“Steam Charts don’t measure fun,” the studio said in its statement.

“They show one number, on one platform, at one given moment. They don’t show the full picture or what it feels like to actually play, and they definitely don’t capture the community that’s actively helping shape what Arena Reloaded is becoming (including upcoming content like Arena Royale).

“Over the past six months, we rebuilt Splitgate from the ground up because we believe in the game, our team, and our community. The 1047 team remains committed to delivering the best version of Splitgate possible.

“To our amazing community: thank you. Your feedback and passion have helped make Arena Reloaded better every day.

“And to everyone who hasn’t played yet: Arena Reloaded is free, the gameplay’s the best it’s ever been, and we’d love for you to jump in and form your own opinion. A lot of passionate people worked very hard on it.”

Regarding Splitgate: Arena Reloaded’s console performance, Alinea Analytics has told GamesIndustry.biz that the shooter “briefly” reached 50,000 daily active users across Xbox and PlayStation after its release, and showed “decent retention” in its first week. However, since then, the game’s audience on console platforms has dropped “significantly”, failing to surpass 15,000 daily active users on Monday, January 5.

Alinea added that most people playing Splitgate: Arena Reloaded were returning from Splitgate 2 and that the shooter had not managed to attract many new players.

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to 1047 Games regarding Splitgate: Arena Reloaded’s console performance.

The original Splitgate launched in May 2019 in Steam Early Access before officially releasing in September 2022. Its sequel launched in June 2025. Shortly after Splitgate 2 came out, developer 1047 Games made a round of layoffs in an effort to “[redirect] resources to build the best game for our players”.

The following month, the studio announced a second wave of job cuts as it brought Splitgate 2 “back to beta”.
