Google I/O 2026: Dates, Rumors, News, and Everything Else To Know

Google I/O is an annual conference for developers held by the tech giant. I/O stands for ‘input/output,’ a classic computing term referencing communication between a computer and the outside world.

What Are the Dates for Google I/O?

Google I/O 2026 is expected to take place in May.

    How to Register and Attend

The event is free and open to all. You can register with your Google account at the official Google I/O website.

Use the Google I/O website to stream the event or catch it on Google’s YouTube channel.

    How Much Is Google I/O?

There is no fee to attend. The online event has been free since 2021.

    Where Is Google I/O Held?

Google I/O takes place at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA. Google is located in that city, about 40 miles south of downtown San Francisco.

Much of the event is virtual, but a limited number of attendees also participate onsite.

What Will Google Announce at I/O 2026?

We don’t have any details yet about what will happen at the next event, but we guess Google will further develop its Gemini platform.

It’s also reasonable to expect a mention of Android 17 ahead of its release, which is expected in late 2026. A new version of Wear OS could make an appearance, too.

The company has also used I/O to drop new hardware, like Pixel phones and tablets.

    Google I/O 2025 Recap

Here’s a quick look at several AI and product updates Google announced across its apps, devices, and services:

AI Mode in Search Rolls Out to Everyone

Google Search’s AI Mode is now available to all US users. It’s powered by Gemini and lives in its own tab on the search results page. Google plans to add deep search, chart generation, and shopping features.

    Gemini Comes to Chrome

Chrome users with AI Pro or Ultra plans can use Gemini to summarize pages, clarify information, and navigate websites, with multi-tab support in the works. This functionality is triggered via a new Gemini button in the corner of the browser.

Gemini 2.5 Adds Deep Think Mode

An experimental mode called Deep Think helps with complex tasks like math and coding. It’s available only to selected testers. Additionally, the 2.5 Flash model is now widely accessible and improved in AI Studio.

    Gmail Smart Replies Get Smarter

Gmail’s AI replies can use your inbox and Drive for context and adjust tone based on who you’re emailing. It launched via Google Labs in July 2025 in English across web and mobile.

    Flow: Google’s AI Video App

Google launched Flow, a new tool that generates video clips using AI. You can stitch scenes together to make longer videos using text or image prompts.

    Stitch: AI-Powered App Design Tool

Stich is a new tool that generates app interfaces from themes, sketches, or other screenshots.

    Google Meet Adds Live Translation

Google Meet can now translate speech in real time (just English and Spanish for now). It’s in beta for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

    Chrome Will Auto-Update Compromised Passwords

Chrome can now detect compromised passwords, generate a new one, and even update it on supported sites.
