This one disadvantage really brings down the new Dynabook Tecra A65-M – NotebookCheck.net News

The Tecra A65-M has poor color reproduction despite its >$1000 asking price (Image source: Dynabook)

The Tecra A65-M would have been a stellar budget-oriented business laptop if it weren’t for its poor choice of IPS panels and lack of sRGB colors.

Dynabook is now shipping its AMD-powered Tecra A65 series to complement its existing lineup of Intel-powered Tecra A60 models. Unlike the higher-end Portege series, the Tecra series utilizes cheaper parts for lower starting prices while still committing to both strong chassis designs and decent performance. One particular aspect, however, falls too short to be ignored.

All current Tecra A65-M configurations are limited to the same 1920 x 1200p IPS panel with no other options to choose from. While this isn’t a problem in itself, the sole display is unfortunately a low quality IPS panel with just 60% sRGB coverage at best despite the ~$1000 asking price. An option to upgrade to full sRGB coverage is non-existent on the Tecra A65-M which could be a dealbreaker for certain usage scenarios.

Full sRGB coverage is becoming increasingly common on budget to midrange laptops to appeal to amateur graphics artists and editors. Even beyond such applications, standard media playback or web browsing also benefit from the more vibrant colors. The fact that all current SKUs in the Tecra A60 and A65 lineup can only reproduce just a fraction of sRGB puts the series in a notable disadvantage when compared to alternatives from the HP Elite series, Lenovo ThinkPad series, or the Dell Pro series.

More benchmarks and comparisons can be found on our review of the Tecra A65-M.
