Wildgate maker Moonshot laying off unspecified number of staff
Parent company Dreamhaven says that game has not attracted enough players for its development team to stay the same size
The developer of Wildgate, Moonshot Games, is making some job cuts due to the title not being able to sustain itself.
Speaking to Game Developer, the studio’s parent company, Dreamhaven, said that despite seeing an increase in attention on the back of the sci-fi shooter’s launch on the Epic Game Store earlier this month, it had not been able to bring in enough players to justify the development team’s size.
There’s no word as to how many staff have been made redundant.
Wildgate was released in July 2025.
“In early January 2026, Wildgate launched on the Epic Games Store, where it was well-received by new and returning players. It was great to see so many crew up on Discord, share tips and stories, and enjoy their time with one another in the Reach,” Dreamhaven said in its statement.
“Despite the increase in player numbers and overall positive reception, it wasn’t enough to sustain the size of our development team. So we made the difficult decision to reduce team roles to ensure we can continue delivering updates to the game while working in a way that supports the studio in the long term. We remain focused on Wildgate’s next content update, which introduces more quality of life improvements, including the highly-requested progression system, which we anticipate coming later this quarter.”
Moonshot Games was one of two studios sitting under Dreamhaven, the games company set up by former Blizzard president Mike Morhaime in 2020. The other developer was Secret Door, which is making Sunderfolk.
Dreamhaven made an unspecified number of layoffs in September 2025, too. At the time, the company said that work on Wildgate, Sunderfolk and other projects was unaffected by these cuts.
“These choices are never easy – they affect talented colleagues who have played a key role in building Dreamhaven’s foundation and supporting what has been an eventful year for us,” Morhaime said at the time.
