The new entry-level iPhone is out, and its not called the iPhone SE 4, but rather, iPhone 16e, and as per previous rumors and leaked photos, the iPhone 16e comes in a recycled iPhone 14 chassis with the same screen size and notch, but only just a single camera on the back, but Apple didn’t just call it a day with a recycled chassis.

For starters, the iPhone 16e is powered by the A18 chip that also powers the current iPhone 16 series, it has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with 60Hz refresh rate, while the frame is made with aerospace-grade alumnium that makes it tough and durable, you also get the Action button as standard instead of the mute switch

What’s new on the iPhone 16e is Apple’s very first custom 5G modem, known as the C1, Apple claims that it is the most efficient 5G modem they have built that promises better battery life, but the modem lacks mmWave support. Apple has fitted a bigger battery all thanks to its more efficient layout, which in return gives it up to 26 hours of video playback time.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 16e doesn’t have MagSafe charging like its higher end sibilings despite supporting Qi wireless charging, wired charging is capped at 20W USB PD over its USB-C port, while the USB-C port is limited to USB 2.0 speeds and doesn’t support DisplayPort output.

Although the iPhone 16e only comes with a single 48-megapixel camera on the back, Apple says that this is a new sensor made specifically for it and supports a 2x telephoto zoom, users can choose to shoot in 24MP photos for sharper images than the standard 12MP resolution, it even supports Photography Styles that allows you to tune your photos directly on the camera app like the iPhone 16.

For videos, the iPhone 16e supports up to 4K 60 fps with support for Dolby Vision HDR, the same goes for the front 12MP camera.

The iPhone 16e comes in color options of Black and White with storage capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, it retails for RM2,999, RM3,499 and RM4,499 in Malaysia for the respective storage capacity.
