One of Samsung ‘s best One UI 7 features might get even better

    Andy Boxall / Digital Trends

One key feature of Samsung’s new One UI 7 update could introduce an important new tool. According to SamMobile, a new Good Lock module may address one of the Now Bar’s biggest shortcomings.

The One UI 7 Now Bar is designed to provide at-a-glance information on a device’s lock screen and Always on Display function. Think of it as something like Apple’s Dynamic Island. Unfortunately, in its present form, it doesn’t offer much customization. What you see is what you get.

Samsung is developing a new Good Lock module that will allow users to customize the Now Bar. The module will allow users to change several characteristics, such as color, size, and animations.

The Samsung One UI 7 update, first launched with the Galaxy S25 series, emphasizes enhanced personalization and intuitive interactions. Although it was initially available only on the Galaxy S25 devices, Samsung intends to roll out the One UI 7 update to a wider array of Galaxy devices, reinforcing its dedication to delivering a more dynamic and user-friendly interface.

The One UI 7 update is expected to become available for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, and Galaxy S24 series. It should also be available for newer devices in the Galaxy Z series, Galaxy Tab series, and Galaxy A series.

Samsung undoubtedly has ambitious plans for the Now Bar, and we can anticipate numerous updates in the coming months as more devices start to support One UI 7. By integrating these dynamic information displays, Samsung aims to enhance user efficiency and create a more intuitive experience within its One UI ecosystem.

Samsung opens One UI 7 beta for foldables and confirms stable release window

Samsung kicked off the beta test program for Android 15-based One UI 7 software in December. But so far, it has remained exclusive to a handful of devices and with no final release date in sight. That status-quo has finally changed today.

The company has confirmed that the stable build of One UI 7 will be released in April. In addition to it, more devices will be added to the beta testing program starting tomorrow for users based in India, South Korea, the UK, and the US.

The base iPad just got a lot better, but misses one big feature

On the heels of today’s new iPad Air announcement, Apple snuck in another tidbit you don’t want to miss: the base iPad now comes with double the starting storage and has been upgraded with the A16 chip. That means a big jump in performance, speed, and battery life; according to Apple, users can expect a performance jump of 30% over the iPad using the A13 Bionic chip.

These upgrades come at a cost, though. Despite the hardware bump, Apple Intelligence isn’t available. Considering how much of Apple’s recent marketing revolves around AI, it’s an odd exclusion, but the explanation is simple: the A16 chip only has 6GB of RAM, when the threshold for Apple Intelligence is 8GB.

Samsung is so behind schedule, it might skip from One UI 7 straight to One UI 8

Despite numerous delays and a significant amount of time spent in development, One UI 7.0 could be the only version we see. Under normal circumstances, Samsung would release at least a 7.1 version to address any unforeseen bugs in the initial rollout, but a reliable leaker suggests things might change this generation.

“The next version of One UI 7.0 is One UI 8.0. There is no One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1,” according to @UniverseIce on X. The news is surprising, but it makes sense. There have been numerous beta releases, but Samsung has yet to launch the full, stable version of One UI 7 — and neither has the company given a concrete release window.
