    Calibre is a free and open source e-book library management application developed by users of e-books for users of e-books.

    Calibre is an e-book library manager. It can view, convert and catalog e-books in most of the major e-book formats. It can also talk to many e-book reader devices. It can go out to the Internet and fetch metadata for your books. It has a cornucopia of features divided into the following main categories:

    • Library Management
    • E-book conversion
    • Syncing to e-book reader devices
    • Downloading news from the web and converting it into e-book form
    • Comprehensive e-book viewer
    • Content server for online access to your book collection

    Is Calibre an e-book reader?

    No, Calibre is an e-book manager in which you can organize existing e-books into virtual libraries, displaying, editing, creating and converting e-books, as well as syncing e-books with a variety of e-readers.

    Can I write an e-book with Calibre?

    Yes. Calibre can turn your personal documents to e-books or create them from scratch. It has automatic style helpers and scripts generating the book’s structure.

    Which devices does Calibre support?

    Calibre is compatible with almost any e-reader, phone or tablet, as well as Windows, Mac and Linux devices. You can transfer your e-books from one device to another in seconds. Calibre will send the best file format for your device, converting it if needed, automatically.

    What formats does Calibre support conversion to/from?

    Calibre supports the conversion of many input formats to many output formats such as:

    • Input Formats: AZW, AZW3, AZW4, CBZ, CBR, CB7, CBC, CHM, DJVU, DOCX, EPUB, FB2, FBZ, HTML, HTMLZ, LIT, LRF, MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ
    • Output Formats: AZW3, EPUB, DOCX, FB2, HTMLZ, OEB, LIT, LRF, MOBI, PDB, PMLZ, RB, PDF, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ, ZIP.

    Can Calibre read RSS feeds?

    Yes, Calibre can deliver news to your device from hundreds of news sources or any RSS feed.

    Does Calibre offer cloud storage for my library?

    Calibre doesn’t offer cloud storage, but it does integrate with most major cloud providers, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. This way, you can set up your eBook library in the cloud and access the content from your phone or tablet.

    • Much improved Kobo support
      • Calibre can now natively edit, view and convert KEPUB format files used by the Kobo. It also automatically converts EPUB to KEPUB when sending books to Kobo devices (can be configured by right clicking the kobo icon in calibre).
    • Connect to folder: Allow connecting a specific device
      • Calibre can now connect to a folder and treat it as though it is a USBMS based device. This is useful particularly on Chromebooks where USB devices appear as folders rather than actual devices.
    • When completing names for fields that contain hierarchical data in prefix mode match prefixes after every period. Closes tickets: 2099780
    • ToC editor: Allow moving of multiple selected items in the Table of Contents
    • macOS: The calibre application icons in the dock are now displayed in a white frame to follow Apple’s current recommended icon style
    • Kobo driver: Add support for new firmware on Tolino devices
    • Book details: Add option in to suppress author search links

    Bug fixes

    • Fix a regression that broke tabbing to edit cells in the book list when some columns have been hidden or re-ordered
    • Catalog generation: Allow using templates that access the database for notes
    • Fix a bug when renaming authors to a name with commas in it
    • Full text search: Also index text in ZIP and RAR archives as these can be viewed by the calibre viewer. Closes tickets: 2100891
    • E-book viewer: Fix Table of Contents current entry tracking not working for some books. Closes tickets: 2099678
    • When reading metadata from HTML also recognize name=”subject” meta tags as calibre tags
    • E-book viewer: Fix viewer not closing on the interrupt signal. Closes tickets: 2099777
    • Edit book: Download external resources: Fix incorrect filename if the server returns a generic Content-Type header. Closes tickets: 2099754
    • Metadata download: Publisher/series transform rules: Fix values with commas in them not working. Closes tickets: 2098620
    • Version 8.0.1 fixes a failure to start on systems where the user had previously installed the KoboTouchExtended plugin and disabled the builtin KoboTouch driver
