Foxconn is well-known for being the contract manufacturer of Apple iPhones. However, the Taiwanese company has revealed it is still intent on entering the US electric mobility space with the launch of its first electric crossover, Model C, before the end of 2025.

Foxconn remains undeterred despite the United States’ new import policies on foreign-made electric vehicles and the termination of EV incentives. The tech company, maintaining its optimism, said the Model C is now undergoing certification in the United States. The company’s long-term plan is to secure a manufacturing site in the US for the North American region.

Meanwhile, plans are ongoing to commence production of the Model C at Foxconn’s Taiwanese plant. Foxconn’s spokesman, James Wu, said, “The Model C plan remains unchanged. For our U.S. customers’ initial orders, production will start in Taiwan, but our goal of manufacturing the Model C in the U.S. has not changed.”

The electronics giant provided this reassurance to its investors when it announced its new partnership with Japan’s Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. to develop battery-powered buses. The two companies would collaborate on developing electric buses, which would be based on Foxconn’s Model T full-size and Model U mid-size people movers.

Foxconn established Foxtron as a joint venture with fellow Taiwanese automotive assembler Yulon Motor Co. The JV designed and engineered Model T and Model U at Foxconn’s new EV battery plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The Model T bus is already on sale in Taiwan and has been integrated into municipal fleets.
