Chery launches Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV in Malaysia — long range, fast charging, and feature-packed cabins

Chery Malaysia has added two plug-in hybrids to its local line-up, unveiling the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV. Both models run on the brand’s Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) platform and are aimed at buyers who want EV-like efficiency without range anxiety.

Powertrain & range: EV feel, ICE flexibility

At the core is a 1.5L ACTECO TGDi (5th-gen) dedicated hybrid engine boasting 44.5% thermal efficiency, paired with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and dual internal e-motors.

Energy comes from an 18.3 kWh LFP battery, good for up to 90 km of pure EV driving; combined with the petrol engine, Chery quotes up to 1,200 km on a full tank and full charge. System output is 275 PS and 365 Nm, delivering smooth step-off and confident highway pace.

Charging is flexible: DC fast charging (40 kW) from 30–80% in ~19 minutes, AC 6.6 kW in ~3 hours, or overnight (~8.5 hours) on a 3-pin plug. Both PHEVs support V2L (3.3 kW) to power external devices at campsites or during outages.

Battery safety: built for Malaysian conditions

Chery’s Guardian Battery Safety System adds multiple layers of protection: high-voltage auto cut-off in incidents, an IP68-rated pack designed to handle dust, water and heat (tested up to 95°C), 500 mm wading depth, and an operating range from −35°C to 60°C.

It’s all backed by an 8-year/160,000 km warranty on the battery, drive motor and control unit, plus a one-to-one battery exchange if state of health drops below 70% during the warranty period.

    Cabin tech & comfort

Both models run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 cockpit platform. The Tiggo 7 PHEV gets a striking 24.6″ integrated dual screen, while the Tiggo 8 PHEV features a 15.6″ central infotainment display. Expect Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 360° cameras, and an HD DVR as standard. The Tiggo 8 adds dual-zone climate control and a Sony 10-speaker audio system; the Tiggo 7 counters with ventilated sport leather seats. Ambient lighting offers 64 colours with music/drive-mode sync, and both have 6-way driver/4-way passenger power adjustment.

ADAS 2.0, tuned for city and highway

An extensive ADAS 2.0 suite is fitted, including AEB, FCW, ACC, LKA/LDP, LDW, RCTA/RCTB, RCW, BSD, MCB, ICC, IHC, LCA, SLR and more. Model-specific extras include Driver Monitoring System (DMS) for the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Driver Fatigue Monitoring (DFS) for the Tiggo 8 PHEV, with Traffic Jam Assistant and Intelligent Avoidance available depending on variant.

Colours, pricing & warranty (West Malaysia)

    • Tiggo 7 PHEV — RM129,800 (add RM2,000 for Blood Stone Red with Black Roof). Other colours: Phantom Grey, Khaki White.
    • Tiggo 8 PHEV — RM159,800. Colours: Aurora Green, Khaki White, Carbon Black.

Ownership perks include 7-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and 5 years free labour service (six service intervals). Terms & conditions apply.
