DJI Romo brings drone-grade sensors to brand’s new premium robot vacuum line – NotebookCheck.net News

DJI is entering the smart home space with its new Romo lineup – a robot vacuum featuring drone-grade sensors, LiDAR mapping, and up to 25,000 Pa suction. The Romo series starts at €1,299 (~$1,511) and is available from October 28.

DJI‘s brand-new Romo is its first all-in-one robot vacuum, and it borrows sensor and navigation tech from the company’s drone work. The line targets thorough cleaning on hard floors and carpets, with three models and a sharp focus on obstacle avoidance, self-maintenance and strong suction.

At the core of Romo is a multimodal sensor stack: dual fisheye cameras plus a wide-angle solid-state LiDAR and machine-learning mapping. DJI says that lets Romo spot very small items – the company’s notes claim detection of objects as thin as 2 mm – and plan routes that avoid cables, socks or even playing cards. Please note that the these test results were from controlled environments; real-world performance could vary by home layout and firmware.

Cleaning specs are quite impressive for a consumer unit. Romo advertises up to 25,000 Pa suction and an airflow of 20 L/s, two high-speed roller motors for hair management, and a 164 ml onboard water tank that adjusts flow automatically. Dual flexible side arms extend to reach corners and adapt in real time, while adaptive brush control cuts down on the spread of debris when encountering litter like cat litter. DJI has also included an auto-wash base: four high-pressure nozzles, a large 16 mm waste outlet and a 12 N downward force on pads, which the company says can cut pad maintenance to as much as 200 days under test conditions.

Privacy and control are handled through the DJI Home app, with cleaning modes for carpets, thresholds, kitchens/baths and pet areas. Cameras require two-factor authentication on first use, streams are encrypted, and camera functions can be disabled for the sake of privacy.

Romo ships starting today (October 28) via store.dji.com and authorized dealers in three trims: Romo S (€1,299, ~$1,511), Romo A (€1,599, ~$1,860), and Romo P (€1,899, ~$2,210). The P model adds transparent windows on the unit and base, plus an extra dispense chamber for concentrated cleaners or floor scent. Official accessories include spare brushes, a ramp for 4 cm thresholds and a starter cleaning solution.

Alternatively, you can check out the eufy Robot Vacuum Omni C20 on Amazon.
