LoopDot is the most unusual product to date from flashlight specialist LoopGear. In addition to the flashlight, LoopDot offers two other functions. Firstly, a fidget toy in the shape of a wheel that can also be used to control the brightness by pressing a button on the top.

Secondly, LoopGear incorporates a dot matrix display with 52 large RGB pixels. This display can, among other things, show the selected brightness and other flashlight settings. Furthermore, the dot matrix display can display a dice that is rolled by shaking the flashlight. A rock-paper-scissors mini-game is also included. The flashlight reaches a brightness of 400 lumens in spotlight mode, which means LoopDot can’t quite keep up with EDC flashlights like the Nitecore Tini 3.

In floodlight mode, the brightness drops to 270 lumens, illuminating a wider area while the light becomes warmer to make it more comfortable for the eyes at night. The maximum 400 lumens can only be maintained for 30 seconds, after which the brightness drops to 150 lumens. At full brightness, the battery life is 1.5 hours. It charges via USB-C at up to 2.5 watts. The flashlight weighs 40 grams, and the housing is IPX6-certified, making it rain-resistant.
 

Price and availability 

LoopGear is currently financing the production of the LoopDot EDC flashlight via Kickstarter. As part of the crowdfunding campaign, the flashlight with an aluminum casing can be pre-ordered for $35, while the model with a titanium casing costs $105.

Shipping is expected to begin in September. The manufacturer offers an optional magnetic case, a clip for attaching to pants and a mounting kit for bicycle handlebars.
