Galaxy G Fold: Specifications, design, and availability of Samsung’s first multi-fold smartphone revealed by new leaks – NotebookCheck.net News
Samsung’s inaugural multi-folding smartphone, the Galaxy G Fold, might be available in limited quantities at launch. Its folding mechanism differs from that of the Mate XT Ultimate.
Samsung’s long-awaited tri-folding device, the putative Galaxy G Fold, still does not have a release date. However, a new report from The Bell gives us a rough idea of when it could surface and sheds light on some of its innards. Unfortunately, it may be beyond the reach of most people due to its exorbitantly high asking price (rumoured to be $3,000).
The report states Samsung plans to mass-produce the Galaxy G Fold sometime in September 2025, but doesn’t state when it will launch. It adds that the foldable will be available in “small quantities, mainly in the domestic and Chinese markets”. It tacitly implies it could make its way to the Chinese market under the Galaxy W moniker, presumably alongside the China-specific Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Essentially, Samsung aims to position it as a proof-of-concept device to test the waters rather than something intended for the masses, which is expected for a first-generation device. Samsung may struggle to sell the Galaxy G Fold as a mainstream offering, even if it wants to, due to high production costs.
As far as its specs are concerned, the Galaxy G Fold is tipped to arrive with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Its camera will be modelled on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, likely with the same sensors. However, it could lose out to the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate in battery capacity but win in another arena.
Galaxy G Fold design
Android Authority has given us our first look at the Galaxy G Fold. Its ‘G’ tag comes from the fact that it will fold like a G, with two internal folds instead of one inner and one outer fold, similar to the Mate XT Ultimate. Additionally, the device will likely feature a total of four screens, with the cover display positioned between two edges. At the back, there are three vertically aligned camera sensors. A selfie camera is present on two of the four panels.
The whole contraption can be used in numerous configurations, making for interesting use cases. That said, the panel with the rear camera cannot be folded inward first, and the device will display an on-screen warning if you attempt to do so. Any existing Huawei Mate XT Ultimate users who opt for the Galaxy Fold may need to reprogram their muscle memory to get accustomed to Samsung’s new foldable device.
