Google Pixel 10 Pro: How good is the Pro Resolution Zoom? – NotebookCheck.net Reviews

In addition to the Camera Coach, the major innovations in the Pixel 10 Pro’s camera setup are the AI-enhanced zoom capabilities, which Google calls Pro Resolution Zoom. We tried it out and will show you what a difference AI makes.

The Google Pixel 10 Pro offers a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with QHD+, 120 Hz and over 3,200 nits brightness. Inside, it features the Tensor G5 chip, 16 GB RAM and up to 1 TB storage, even if still partly in the UFS 3.1 standard. Features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, UWB, 5G and the new ‘Pixelsnap’ magnet for accessories. A 4,970 mAh battery ensures solid runtimes and charges at 30 W wired or 15 W wireless. Android 16 with seven years of updates and AI features such as Gemini and Circle to Search round off the package.

The Google Pixel 10 Pro’s camera relies on a versatile triple system: a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation ensures balanced shots, supported by a 48 MP ultra-wide angle lens that also enables macro photos. In addition, there is a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, which can digitally magnify up to 100x. AI-supported, the so-called Pro Resolution Zoom kicks in at 30x magnification, sending the image to the cloud for optimisation. The user then has the choice of which version they want to see, but can also keep both.

First, here is the sunflower motif with 2x digital zoom and 5x optical zoom:

Next is the 50x zoom with and without AI optimisation:

    AI-optimised

And the maximum zoom with 100x enlargement:

    AI-optimised

AI optimisation delivers visible improvements, but it is certainly not flawless or even optimal. Even large, bold fonts can be sharpened further in this way. However, with smaller, narrower fonts, the AI quickly reaches its limits and turns them into hieroglyphics.

As a child I was fascinated by my Commodore 16, and this sparked my enthusiasm for computers. Using my first modem, I surfed the BTX videotext system and later the World Wide Web. I have always been captivated by the latest technologies, and this is especially true for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. I’ve been part of the Notebookcheck team since 2013 and have also on occasion written for Notebookinfo.de, and I’m looking forward to testing new innovations for our readers. I like to spend my spare time indulging in photography and barbecues and being with my family.
