    • Australia vs Argentina – Sat, Sept 13, 12am ET / 5am BST / 2pm AEST

It’s safe to assume both the Wallabies and the Pumas learned plenty from last weekend’s thriller. Argentina had led 21-7 at half-time, but couldn’t cope with Australia after the interval, with Angus Bell crossing the whitewash in the 85th minute to complete an extraordinary comeback. Final score: 28-24.

For Joe Schmidt’s men, the victory was all the sweeter because when it comes to Australia and Argentina, it’s not just the Rugby Championship on the line. They’re jostling for No.6 in the world rugby rankings, which would secure top seeding at the Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2027. As things stand, Felipe Contepomi’s men trail the Aussies by a measly 2.56 points. The gap had stood at 1.45 points before last weekend’s result.

You can’t accuse Schmidt of taking the safe route at Sydney Football Stadium. With Tom Lynagh injured, he’s opted to hand Tane Edmed his first international start at fly-half, albeit with James O’Connor, who led last weekend’s thrilling fightback, in reserve. After his double, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is the tournament’s joint-top try scorer.

Argentina are bottom of the standings going into Round 4 but level on points with South Africa, who they finish their campaign against. It’s perhaps with the Springboks in mind that Contepomi has replaced No.8 Pablo Matera with Joaquin Oviedo.
