70% The HP OmniBook 5 Laptop AI lures you in with an affordable big screen, but it may be a trap.
    Source: Laptop Mag
The HP OmniBook 5 Laptop AI has a few strengths, such as its touchpad and keyboard, but these are not enough to outweigh its flaws, including underwhelming performance and a dismal display. The display is disappointing, even at its often discounted price, while the performance and battery life are easier to take for under $700. The OmniBook is fine for basic tasks like web browsing, but if that’s all you need a laptop for, you may consider going even cheaper with one of the best laptops under $500! On the other end of the spectrum, if you’re looking for a high-performance laptop for work or creative tasks, you will be much better off with the MacBook Air M4 or one of the best 16-inch laptops. As much as I want to like every laptop I review, there are simply too many drawbacks to recommend the HP OmniBook 5 Laptop AI for most users unless it is deeply discounted.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

AMD Radeon 780M: Integrated graphics card in the Ryzen 7040 mobile series APUs based on the RDNA3 architecture with 12 CUs (= 768 shaders) and a clock speed of up to 3 GHz.

AMD Radeon 840M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in early 2025 and a direct successor to the Radeon 760M. Its 8 CUs/WGPs (512 unified shaders) run at up to 3 GHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games in low graphics settings.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

    AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):

R7 8840U: A powerful laptop processor (APU) of the Hawk Point family. This isn’t an entirely new APU; instead, the R7 8840U is an R7 7840U in disguise, with higher clock speeds on the Ryzen AI NPU as the only difference. Its eight Zen 4 cores run at 3.3 GHz to 5.1 GHz and are SMT-enabled for a total of 16 processing threads. The great Radeon 780M iGPU is responsible for 3D processing and similar duties.

    AMD :

Ryzen AI 5 340: A relatively powerful Krackan Point family processor that was introduced in early 2025. The APU integrates 6 CPU cores (three Zen 5 cores with up to 4.8 GHz and three Zen 5c cores with up to 3.4 GHz). The integrated Ryzen AI delivers up to 50 INT8 TOPS for accelerating various AI workloads.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

    16.00:

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

No weight comment found (one expected)!

85%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
