Hulu is an undervalued streaming service that regularly puts out excellent TV shows. That doesn’t mean that the streamer doesn’t have plenty of interesting shows on offer, though, even if it does mean that those shows might be a little underrated or undervalued by general TV lovers.

If you’re looking for something on Hulu worth your time, start with Dying for Sex. Although it premiered to great reviews earlier this year, the series has not received the attention it very much deserves. Here are three reasons it’s worth your time:

    Michelle Williams is always great

Perhaps the chief reason that Dying for Sex is so brilliant belongs to Michelle Williams. She stars as Molly, a Stage IV cancer patient who decides to leave her husband so that she can fully explore all of her sexual desires. As the series progresses, she understands all the things she’s been missing, even though she also has some experiences that are definitely not for her.

Dying for Sex is not a straightforward comedy, but the series includes comedic elements, and Williams knows how to play those beautifully, especially when she’s paired up with Rob Delaney or Jenny Slate.

The show is from one of TV’s most unheralded writers

    Sarah Shatz / FX

Another reason to love Dying for Sex is that the show was co-created by Elizabeth Meriwether, a showrunner best known for creating New Girl and The Dropout. As the differences between those two series might suggest, Meriwether is capable of a broad range of tones, and she knows how to make even sad or dramatic material funny.

Perhaps also crucially, Meriwether understands that people are beautiful in part because most of them are utter weirdos and that strange behavior is part of what makes them wonderful.

    The episodes are short

    FX

If you watch a lot of TV, you know it’s hard to watch multiple episodes in a row with feature-length runtimes. Thankfully, the team behind Dying for Sex seems to understand that brevity on TV is not necessarily a bad thing. The show is eight episodes long, with each running for about 30 minutes.

You can get through it in one extended sitting or parse it out among the other things you want to do. Dying for Sex knows what story it’s telling and decides to simply tell it, and there’s something to be said for that sort of straightforward, brief approach.

You can watch Dying for Sex on Hulu.

3 great Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend (April 18 – 20)

Given the success of A Minecraft Movie in theaters, our first instinct for this week’s update was to suggest some great Jack Black movies on Hulu. Unfortunately, there aren’t any great Jack Black movies on Hulu. Year One and Gulliver’s Travels are far from his best work. But while we can’t recommend any of Black’s films on Hulu right now, there are three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend.

The first is a terrific crime thriller that flew way under the radar last year. Our second pick of the week features Jude Law in a different kind of thriller that dramatizes some dangerous events from the early ’80s. And our final pick of the week features an engaging romance between two of the most recognizable TV stars of their era. It’s an onscreen pairing that works surprisingly well.

If you have to watch one Peacock movie this April 2025, stream this one

The world is filled with injustice, and we ignore most of it because it would be hard to go through the world otherwise. That’s what can make a movie like Dark Waters feel so bracing. The film, which was released in 2019 and almost immediately became underrated, tells the story of an attorney who slowly connects a number of deaths in a small, rural town to one of the world’s biggest corporations.
As he comes to appreciate the scale of the conspiracy he’s uncovered, he begins to fear for his life and for the lives of millions around the world. It’s a dark, bracing movie, but one well worth watching while it’s available on Peacock. Here are three reasons it’s worth checking out:
Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new movies to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, and the best shows on Disney+.
Dark Waters is about something relatively mundane, but it plays like a conspiracy thriller
DARK WATERS | Official Trailer | In Theaters November 22
The mystery at the heart of Dark Waters is sinister, but what makes the movie so remarkable is the way it manages to make a story about the dangers of Teflon feel like All the President’s Men.
Thanks to expert direction from Todd Haynes and an impressive script, we learn everything we need to know about this dangerous material and about why DuPont was so intent on covering it up. Dark Waters is far from the first movie to tell the story of a crusading attorney fighting for disadvantaged people, but Dark Waters knows exactly where and when to defy your expectations.

It’s anchored by Anne Hathaway and Mark Ruffalo
