I was just an elementary school kid when I Know What You Did Last Summer first fell on my radar, and I was hooked (pun fully intended), even though it wasn’t until several years later that I actually watched the entire film. The 1997 movie plays out a bit like Scream without the self-aware humor, which makes sense considering that Kevin Williamson penned the screenplays for both movies. Despite its more straightforward slasher approach, the movie’s summer setting makes it a fun, warm-weather watch.
Admittedly, I’m a bit biased as a native North Carolinian. I Know What You Did Last Summer is set in Southport, North Carolina and was shot mainly in and around town. As a super fan, I’ve been to several of the filming locations from the movie, thanks to the superb sleuthing of one of my good cinephile friends. Spots I’ve visited include the Amuzu Theater (where the beauty pageant is held), Fishy Fishy Cafe (which was a gym in the film), and Harrell’s Department Store (Shiver’s store in the movie).

My enthusiasm grew when I discovered it was directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, writer/director of the excellent Do Revenge, with a story co-written by Robinson and Leah McKendrick (writer/director of one of my favorite 2023 flicks, Scrambled). I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 hits the box office on July 18.
To get in the mood for the new version and refresh myself with the story, I’m rewatching the series. Here’s how you can stream the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise before the next movie comes out.
How many I Know What You Did Last Summer movies are there?
There are three I Know What You Did Last Summer flicks — the 1997 original was followed by I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. Here’s how to watch all of the I Know What You Did Last Summer flicks in order by release date:

- I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
- I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006)
In addition to the three feature film releases, there’s a 2021 TV series adaptation.

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt reprise their roles from the 1997 movie, so you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the story. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 director/writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson revealed that — continuing the tradition of the previous films in the franchise — the requel retcons the endings of the earlier movies, but not necessarily the films themselves. Accordingly, I would recommend bingeing at least the first two films — the 2006 entry I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is standalone, not canon, and accordingly, the most skippable.
While I’m planning to stream it, you don’t necessarily need to watch the TV series. Though it adapts the story, the show lives outside the film franchise canon. But it could still be a neat way to get in the beachside slasher spirit.
