“Interactive” Pokémon experience to debut at Universal Studios Japan
The Pokémon Company and Universal Studios share partnership update, announcing “global development project” for franchise in Universal parks
The Pokémon Company and Universal Studios have provided an update to its partnership, announcing a “global development project” set to premiere at Universal Studios Japan.
Following its debut in the Osaka-based park it will be delivered “across the company’s global footprint,” as reported by Theme Park Insider.
Universal Japan has described the venture as something that will “bring the Pokémon world to life in an unprecedented interactive and rich way.”
It’s unclear whether this will be another themed land like Super Nintendo World, or a single experience.
“Since announcing our long-term alliance in 2021, we have collaborated with Universal Studios Japan to produce authentic Pokemon experiences such as the No Limit Parade and Halloween shows,” said Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara.
“As Pokemon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, we are thrilled to launch this new project at such a significant milestone. Our mission is to enrich both the real and virtual worlds through Pokemon, and with this project, we aim to create theme park entertainment that surprises and delights fans around the globe.”
Universal Destinations & Experiences chairman and CEO Mark Woodbury added: “Collaborating with imaginative and inventive storytellers fuels our ability to create and deliver mind-blowing attractions and experiences that shatter guest expectations.
“The Pokemon Company is one of the most beloved interactive franchises in the world, and through our ongoing partnership, we will continue bringing its vibrant world to life in new and innovative ways for years to come.”
Separately, a Pokémon-themed park is set to open next month in Yomiurland – an existing theme park in Tokyo.
PokéPark Kanto is a permanent outdoor attraction, featuring a Pokemon Forest, Trainers’ Market, Gym, and Battle Court.
