Kensington’s newest trackball is finally rechargeable — and coming soon

    Image: Kensington

PC users who like big balls are often underserved, at least when it comes to input devices. Kensington is one of the best suppliers to that market (again, specifically when it comes to PC accessories), and it’s been a few years since it updated the design of its flagship trackball. We spotted the newest model earlier this year, but we won’t have too long to wait for the new Expert Mouse TB800.

Once again, I feel like I need to point out that the Expert Mouse TB800 is a trackball, not a mouse—it’s a legacy name. The new design adds big knobbly scroll bars to either side of the primary device, plus enough extra buttons around the ambidextrous housing to bind up to 16 additional actions. The primary ball has a 55mm diameter and a 1,000Hz polling rate over both wired and wireless, though its precise DPI or equivalent isn’t listed in the specs. (The older model was 400 DPI.) You can connect over USB-C, 2.4GHz dongle, or Bluetooth.

The biggest improvement for power users will probably be the rechargeable battery, which is long overdue since the older Expert Mouse was still using a AAA. Kensington says it can last for four months on a charge with regular use.

A representative told me the TB800 will release in North America in Q4 2025—so presumably before the end of this year—for $130 USD. That’s pricey, but only $20 more than the old model at Kensington’s online store, and in line with Logitech’s flagship trackball.
