Microsoft fixes bug behind Windows certificate enrollment errors

Microsoft has resolved a known issue causing false CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) error messages after installing the July 2025 preview and subsequent Windows 11 24H2 updates.

When it acknowledged this bug two weeks ago, the company asked users to ignore error events caused by recent updates that triggered a warning about the ‘Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider’ not being loaded.

“Following installation of the July 2025 Windows non-security preview update (KB5062660) and later updates including the August 2025 Windows security update, Event Viewer may display an error related to CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) which can be safely ignored,” the company said.

“Please note that although this event is logged in Event Viewer every time the device is restarted, it does not reflect an issue with any active Windows component. [..] There is no impact to Windows processes associated to this event and no action is required to prevent or resolve this error.”

Microsoft also stated that the known issue is caused by a feature that hasn’t yet been fully integrated into the operating system because it’s still under development.

Earlier today, Redmond updated the Windows release health dashboard to confirm that the bug has now been resolved and a fix will be rolling out over the next four weeks.

“This resolution is gradually rolling out for commercial devices that have Windows updates managed by Microsoft and consumer devices (Home and Pro editions) and will be automatically enabled on devices with KB5064081, released on August 29, 2025,” Microsoft said on Friday.

“The rollout is expected to complete in approximately 4 weeks. After that, all subsequent security and non-security updates will include this resolution by default.”

In recent months, Microsoft has addressed several other similar issues affecting various Windows features that have also triggered incorrect warnings with no actual impact.

For instance, last month, the company confirmed another known issue causing Windows Firewall configuration errorsafter installing the June 2025 preview update and rebooting the computer.

In April, it acknowledged and fixed a bug that caused invalid 0x80070643 failure errors after installing the April 2025 Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates. The same month, it also fixed a known issue that triggered incorrect BitLocker drive encryption errors on Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.
