Mini PC with AMD Ryzen 9: Is the Geekom A7 Max Edition 2026 worth it? – NotebookCheck.net Reviews
The Geekom A7 Max is based on the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and combines the powerful CPU with a high-quality, compact housing and extensive connectivity. In our detailed test, we examined how the mini PC performs in everyday use and in direct comparison with the competition.
The Geekom A7 Max is a powerful new addition to the manufacturer’s mini PC lineup, aimed at demanding users. It uses an already familiar SoC, which, despite its age, will still provide sufficient performance in 2026. Equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, Geekom relies on a proven eight-core processor from the Zen 4 generation with 16 threads, which can handle many computing-intensive tasks with ease. The CPU is supported by almost DDR5 RAM and a PCIe SSD, which means that the mini PC already offers high system performance out of the box. However, the RAM equipment turns out to be a weak point, as the SoC cannot deliver its full performance with just one SO-DIMM module. However, an upgrade is possible, which will allow further performance reserves to be unlocked in the future.
The integrated AMD Radeon 780M is responsible for the graphics, which is suitable for office applications, multimedia playback, and occasional gaming. The A7 Max does not have a dedicated NPU for AI tasks; corresponding workloads are still executed via CPU or GPU. Here, newer models such as the Geekom A9 Max (on Amazon for $1,259) have the advantage.
Externally, Geekom remains true to its familiar design language. The high-quality aluminum housing is compact but still offers enough space for extensive connectivity. In addition to several USB ports, modern USB4 interfaces, HDMI outputs, and a card reader are available, allowing the mini PC to be flexibly integrated into existing setups.
The Geekom A7 Max is predominantly quiet in everyday use, but the fan speed increases significantly under high load. How the system performs in benchmarks, in continuous operation, and in direct comparison with the competition is clarified in our recent review.

I was already interested in technology from an early age, and I was able to study for my dream job as an IT Systems Electronics Engineer. Subsequently, I started 12 years of military service, during which I learned a lot about technology and constantly kept my knowledge up to date with the latest developments. As I like to share my knowledge, I found Notebookcheck was a very good opportunity for this. In addition, I also work a lot with water cooling and network security.
