Minisforum recalls NAB9 mini-PCs suffering from boot and shutdown failures – NotebookCheck.net News
Minisforum has identified specific batches of NAB9 mini-PCs that experience boot or shutdown failures. Allegedly caused by incorrect capacitor materials being used, affected units can be replaced with an additional 12-month warranty also issued for new units.
The Minisforum NAB9 series remains an affordable option for those in the market for an affordable yet relatively powerful mini-PC (curr. $319.99 on Amazon). Available since last March, the NAB9 was then joined by the NAB9 Plus earlier this year with OCuLink connectivity added.
Now, Minisforum has determined that certain NAB9 units were shipped with incorrect capacitor materials. As a result, some units are prone to suffering from abnormal shutdowns or a complete startup failure altogether. According to a Minisforum blog post, these units were produced between September 19, 2024 and March 14, 2025. The company adds that one can identify one of the affected mini-PCs if the first three digits in its serial number fall between 017 and 117 or 386 and 526.
Currently, Minisforum states that it will only replace units falling within its specified serial number range that are experiencing these startup or shutdown issues. If your NAB9 fits these criteria, then Minisforum has committed to replacing it with a new device that has an additional 12-month warranty attached. Please note that you are unlikely to receive your data intact upon receiving a replacement unit.
At this stage, Minisforum implies that only the NAB9 is affected and not the NAB9 Plus. Additionally, while the company claims to have ‘enhanced quality control measures’ to ensure that this does not occur again, it has not demonstrated what changes it has made in this regard. Also, it is unclear whether one must pay return shipping for their NAB9 to be verified. Please see Minisforum’s blog post for more details.
