New free RPG impresses with innovation – “a feature I’ve always wished games had” – NotebookCheck.net News

The new open-world RPG Where Winds Meet is delighting players with an innovative AI chat feature that allows for real, natural dialogue with NPCs. (Image source: PlayStation Store)

Where Winds Meet has been a hit since its release, thanks in part to its groundbreaking AI chat system that lets players interact with NPCs in a natural way. For many, it represents a long-anticipated evolution of traditional role-playing mechanics.

Marius Müller (translated by Marius Müller), Published 11/17/2025 🇩🇪

We covered Where Winds Meet shortly before its launch – an open-world action RPG that released on November 14 for PC, PS5 (currently priced at $530 n Amazon), and mobile. Set in 10th-century China, the game stands out for its remarkable freedom of play and for a feature that has quickly become its breakout highlight: the ability to engage in open-ended conversations with NPCs.

A post by Ashen One went viral on X on November 15, calling the feature a “dream come true” and something he had “always wished games had.” In the comments, many users echoed his sentiment, saying the AI chat function allowed them to experience genuinely emotional conversations with NPCs for the first time. Others drew comparisons to earlier mobile experiments – like the chatbot app Talking Angela, where you could talk to a cat – but agreed that Where Winds Meet offers the most impressive implementation yet.

With 80% positive ratings on Steam, more than 13,000 reviews, and a launch peak of nearly 194,000 players, it is clear that the gaming community has taken strong interest in the new open-world RPG from Chinese developer Everstone Studio. Still, it is the dialogue feature that seems to be capturing most of the attention. It adds a new layer of life to the game’s already expansive world, turning NPCs into genuine conversational partners rather than simple quest providers.

Ultimately, the question is how far this approach could go. The overwhelmingly positive response suggests that AI-driven conversations may no longer remain a niche experiment. Developers might start integrating similar systems into future titles – whether in sprawling open-world RPGs or even traditional MMOs. The coming years will show whether this feature is here to stay and could soon become a new standard in game design.
