New free-to-play MMORPG is now trending on Steam, and it features offline progression with “Very Positive” reviews – NotebookCheck.net News

IdleOn is a free-to-play 2D idle MMORPG where you manage a whole roster of characters that progress even while offline, stacking deep skilling, crafting and automation systems with light MMO social features and optional microtransactions.

IdleOn (listed on Steam as Legends of Idleon: Idle MMO) is a free‑to‑play, solo‑dev MMORPG that is all about idle progression, multi‑character management and tongue‑in‑cheek humor rather than being a big-budget spectacle. It is best described as “the MMO you play while playing other games,” which is exactly how its systems are built: everything keeps running, looting and levelling whether you are online or not.

More specifically, IdleOn is a 2D pixel‑art idle MMORPG where you – the player – creates an expanding roster of characters that all work in parallel, farming monsters, gathering resources and crafting even while you are logged off. Over time those characters spread out across maps and systems – this forms a kind of personal guild whose combined output fuels your account‑wide progression rather than a single “main”.

The game features more than a dozen base and advanced classes, from straightforward warriors, archers and mages to odder specs built around economy or automation. They all have their own talent trees and attack patterns. There’s a dense web of side systems built around them – skills like mining, smithing, alchemy, fishing and cooking, plus post‑office orders, stamps, statues, obols, tower defense, pet battles and factory‑style automation layers. All of these turn what looks like a simple idle game into a min‑max sandbox.

IdleOn’s “MMO” side is lighter than traditional big‑shard RPGs: you share towns and overworld spaces with other players, chat, join guilds and compete on minigame or boss leaderboards, but core combat and gathering are effectively instanced to your account. That structure keeps the focus on long‑term account building rather than raid schedules.

On Steam, IdleOn is free‑to‑play with no upfront box price. Instead, you can support the game via cosmetic and convenience microtransactions such as extra character slots, account boosts and cosmetics. The same account can be used across PC and mobile versions, and the solo developer has a strict no‑ads, anti‑pay‑to‑win stance in the store descriptions.

Going by the community feedback so far, the depth, frequent updates and generous free content are IdleOn‘s strongest points. Common critiques focus on a steep learning curve, UI clutter, and the grindy feel that comes through once you’re juggling a double‑digit roster of characters. The game had an early access phase, but even after its official release in early November, reviews continue to stay positive. What’s more, it’s playable on the Steam Deck (curr. $810 on Amazon) as well. You can check it out here.
