OpenAI is offering $20 ChatGPT Plus for free to some users

If you’re already subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20, you can request OpenAI to cancel your subscription, and it may offer one month of free usage.

This change was first spotted by BleepingComputer over the weekend.

As a Flutter/Dart developer, I’ve found Claude to be the best for my use cases, and I’ve almost stopped using ChatGPT, which is why I decided to cancel my subscription.

When I opened ChatGPT and tried to cancel the subscription, OpenAI offered me one month of ChatGPT Plus at no cost.

The next renewal automatically switched to free ($0/month), and now I’ll need to pay again after the offer ends (around late Feb 2026).

If nothing changes after Feb 17, 2026, my plan would switch back to the normal paid price, so the safest place to check is the Manage button under Payment.

This offer is valid in several regions, and it’s being gradually rolled out.
