PlayStation skips Ghost of Yotei plates for OG PS5 console owners – NotebookCheck.net News
The release caters to the PS5 Slim and the Pro SKUs but does not offer a solution for gamers with an older PlayStation 5 console.
PlayStation’s recent reveal of Ghost of Yotei’s limited run console plates has garnered not only a lot of hype but also a bit of ire, especially if you’re one of the many people who own the original launch variant PS5.
Sony is shifting gears to prepare for the October 2 launch of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei. As part of its promotional efforts as well as ongoing merchandising strategy for its first-party titles, the company revealed a lineup of special edition units featuring two PS5 Slim bundles, matching DualSense controllers, and faceplates for the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro.
The Ghost of Yotei faceplates will come in a gold variant, drawing inspiration from Japanese kintsugi art, while the black edition takes inspiration from sumi-e. Bold brushstrokes on the plates represent Atsu’s journey in the game. The black edition is exclusive to select retailers and PlayStation Direct.
Yet, a sizeable portion of the PS5 community will miss out on this opportunity. Many original PS5 owners have expressed their frustration on the internet, expressing that Sony has forgotten about their launch variant and is catering exclusively to PS5 Slim and Pro owners.
Plenty of PS5 owners will feel left out, as the original PS5 is still widely used and readily available on secondary markets, despite Sony discontinuing the model in late 2023 and replacing it with the Slim variant, just three years after the console’s release.
This isn’t the first time Sony has looked the other way when it comes to original PS5 owners. In 2024, Sony launched 30th anniversary faceplates, exclusive to the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro, leaving early adopters out of the loop.
Some PS5 owners are stating that they’d resort to third-party or unofficial faceplates, even though these alternatives will lack the detail and authenticity of Sony’s own cover plate lineup. Still, original PS5 owners can buy the limited edition Ghost of Yotei controller, which works with all PS5 models.
