Resident Evil Requiem Steam player count breaks RE4’s 168K record 30 mins after release – NotebookCheck.net News

Resident Evil Requiem quickly set a new standard for survival horror popularity on Steam. Soon after going live on its release date, RE9 skyrocketed past the record set by the Resident Evil 4 remake. Strong pre-order sales and reviews have contributed to a peak Steam player count of over 250K.

Furious pre-order sales hinted that Capcom’s latest survival horror title would smash records. PC gamers have already eclipsed the benchmark set by the Resident Evil 4 remake in March 2023. Within 30 minutes of launching on its release date, the peak Resident Evil Requiem Steam player count stood at over 200k.

As with the new title, Leon Kennedy’s star power helped propel RE4 past 168K. Yet, even modernizing the classic with improved graphics and controls didn’t generate the same buzz as Requiem. In the top five for participation on Valve’s marketplace, it’s competing with esports heavyweights like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2.

As the previous mainline Resident Evil game, Village reached a peak player count of 106,000+ in 2021. The RE2 and RE3 remakes trailed the eighth entry, while RE7 only crossed 20K in 2017. Capcom has also obliterated its Konami survival horror rival, with Silent Hill f and the Silent Hill 2 remake falling short of 25K.

It’s worth noting that the launch time on the Resident Evil Requiem release date wasn’t ideal for some fans. In the U.S., East Coast players had to stay awake until midnight to revisit Raccoon City. Meanwhile, in much of Europe, gamers set their alarms for 6AM or earlier. However, targeting a growing PC audience in Japan, it debuted at a more convenient 2PM.

Signs of trouble for RE9 PC performance?

RE9 couldn’t top the RE4 remake among journalists, scoring 88 on Metacritic. Nevertheless, reviews praise its visuals, which set a new standard for detail levels and realistic lighting. Even so, technical snafus are spoiling the fun for some Valve supporters, with reports of crashes. Another common early complaint is the inability to rebind arrow keys.

Hopefully, Capcom or Nvidia can address any issues quickly. Sorting out the problems may boost the Resident Evil Requiem Steam player count even higher during its first weekend.
