Samsung Expands Sleep Apnea Detection to Galaxy Watch Series in Malaysia

Samsung has officially introduced its Sleep Apnea detection feature for the Galaxy Watch series in Malaysia through the Samsung Health Monitor app, marking another significant milestone in the company’s mission to advance sleep health technology.

The rollout follows Samsung’s receipt of the Medical Device Registration Certificate from Malaysia’s Medical Device Authority (MDA), confirming that the company’s technology meets the nation’s stringent health, safety, and environmental standards. This certification further cements Samsung’s position as a leader in digital health innovation and sleep monitoring technology.

Beyond Malaysia, the feature has also been approved by multiple global health authorities, including Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA). These approvals build on Samsung’s historic De Novo authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — the first-ever clearance granted to a wearable device capable of detecting signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. Additional regulatory approvals have also been granted by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Brazil’s ANVISA, and Health Canada, paving the way for global expansion of this life-improving feature.

Recognizing that sleep is a cornerstone of overall well-being, Samsung aims to help users understand and enhance their sleep quality through advanced monitoring and personalized coaching. The Sleep Apnea feature enables early detection of potential symptoms, helping users take proactive measures to prevent long-term complications associated with this often underdiagnosed condition.

By continuously expanding access to this FDA-authorized health tool, Samsung is reaffirming its commitment to empowering users with meaningful, science-backed insights that promote healthier lifestyles and better sleep habits across the globe.

To celebrate the feature’s arrival, Samsung Malaysia is offering exclusive rebates and bundle rewards for customers purchasing the latest Galaxy Watch series until 31 October 2025, allowing users to seamlessly integrate the new health features into their Galaxy ecosystem.
