Scare, laugh, and loot: 2025 Co-op hit (96% Positive) free to play for a limited time – NotebookCheck.net News

R.E.P.O. is free to play on Steam until November 3. (Image source: Steam)

R.E.P.O. is a wild co-op horror game featuring quirky robots, dark humor, and a serious craving for loot. With a 96% positive rating, it’s free to play on Steam until November 3 – and comes with a steep discount for anyone who wants to keep it after the trial.

Marius Müller (translated by Marius Müller), Published 10/31/2025 🇩🇪

R.E.P.O. stands for “Retrieve, Extract, and Profit Operation,” which sums up the core gameplay pretty well: grab loot, get out, and make money. What the name doesn’t reveal, though, is the game’s focus on co-op action and its light touch of horror – all delivered with a generous dose of humor. The robots you control might be sent on dangerous missions, but they look more cute than creepy.

In R.E.P.O., you team up with up to five other players to recover valuable items across four distinct mission zones, each procedurally generated for a fresh challenge every time. The goal is simple: make as much profit as possible. But getting out alive is the real challenge. Eerie creatures roam the maps, reacting to both sound and movement. Be too loud or too greedy, and you might lose everything – including your hard-earned loot.

While weapons are available, the gunplay is intentionally simple and meant to be a last resort – something to help you escape, not start a fight. The developers recently rolled out the Monster Update, introducing a new map called the Museum of Human Art, along with new weapons, upgrades, and a range of quality-of-life improvements.

R.E.P.O. was developed by semiwork and launched in Early Access on Steam in February 2025. Since then, it has received an overwhelmingly positive response – over 240,000 reviews, with 96% rating it positive. The game truly shines when played with friends, especially over voice chat, offering plenty of absurd and hilarious moments. Playing solo, however, tends to be less enjoyable. It’s worth noting that R.E.P.O. doesn’t feature built-in matchmaking yet, so you’ll need to find teammates yourself – or bring your own crew. Another downside: there’s no native controller support. Still, the co-op horror title is playable on the Steam Deck (currently available for around $440 on Amazon).

Free weekend and biggest discount yet

Early Access normally costs around $10, but you can try R.E.P.O. completely free until November 3. If you enjoy the chaotic co-op experience, the game is also available at its lowest price yet – about $6.50, thanks to a 35% discount.
