Supercell promotes Sara Bach to president amid restructure
The company is bringing its business operations, marketing and community, people, and game tech teams under the newly-formed live games division
Finnish mobile giant Supercell has promoted Sara Bach to the position of president as it makes some changes to how the company is structured.
In a post on LinkedIn, the firm’s co-founder and CEO, Ilkka Paananen, wrote that Bach would be heading up a brand new live games division. This combines Supercell’s business operations, marketing and community, people, and game tech departments.
Bach joined Supercell in 2023 as head of live games before being promoted to chief live games officer the following year. Prior to joining the Clash of Clans maker, her CV includes stints at DICE, King and Mojang.
“This is a big responsibility and an incredibly important role for Supercell,” Paananen wrote.
“Sara has already shown exceptional leadership in how she runs our live games and how she thinks about our players. She combines deep experience from scaled organisations with being 100% true to Supercell’s culture — a rare and powerful mix.
“As a founder, I feel lucky to have someone like Sara looking after the day-to-day operations of the company. It lets me focus on where I can have the biggest impact. Alongside vision and culture, I’ll be working closely with Drussila Hollanda, our head of new games, to bring an even more entrepreneurial, startup-like mindset to the new games side of Supercell.
“Our ambition here is clear: Supercell should be the best place for ambitious product founders to build the next hit games.”
Paananen said that part of the reason behind making this new Live Games division is to ensure that all the different disciplines required to develop and run such projects are under one roof.
“Today, every game is a live service that must constantly improve for players. As we’ve focused on that, we’ve grown a lot — and the numbers speak for themselves. Our games have improved and reached more players than ever,” he said.
“But growth has also made us bigger and more complex. To strengthen alignment and ensure everyone stays 100% focused on delivering the best possible player experience, we’re moving to a new org model.”
