Tenku Pocket 8 micro laptop launched with 8-inch touch display and 8-core Intel Alder Lake-N CPU – NotebookCheck.net News

The Tenku Pocket 8 mini laptop sports an 8-core Alder Lake-N CPU.

Tenku has launched the Pocket 8 ultra-compact laptop in Japan, equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen display with an impressive pixel density of 283 PPI. The 1.43-pound machine sports an octa-core Alder Lake-N CPU, along with 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory.

Micro PCs are quite popular among certain niche audiences, especially those who are obsessed with SFF PCs of all kinds. Japanese brand Tenku is no stranger to such systems, and has expanded its range with the announcement of the Pocket 8 ultra-compact laptop.

Unlike traditional laptops which often come with 13-inch and larger screens, the Pocket 8 settles for a tiny 8-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. While that may not sound like a whole lot of pixels at first glance, it does allow the compact laptop to boast an impressive pixel density of 283 PPI, which is even higher than premium devices such as the M5 MacBook Pro.

Octa-core Alder Lake-N CPU for acceptable performance

That said, the Tenku Pocket 8 is nowhere close to being a powerhouse, packing the Intel Core i3 N305 Alder Lake-N CPU with eight cores and eight threads and a peak boost clock of 3.8 GHz. An Intel UHD iGPU with 32 EUs based on the Xe architecture handles graphics.

As indicated by synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench, performance should be respectable, and the system should be able to handle most non-intensive day-to-day workloads, such as browsing, content consumption, lightweight productivity and the like.

The Pocket 8 laptop is extremely compact.

The keyboard is understandably tiny, and is unlikely to be particularly exciting to type on. A trackpoint is present, since there is no space for a full-size trackpad. Storage and memory requirements are taken care of by 512 GB of M.2 2280 storage and 16 GB of LPDDR5-4800 memory. The I/O on offer is as follows:

    • WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2
    • Dual USB Type-A (USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen 2), USB Type-C
    • Mini HDMI 1.4
    • microSD reader
    • 3.5 mm audio combo jack

At just over 650 grams or 1.43 pounds, the Pocket 8 laptop is extremely compact, measuring in at just 20 x 13 x 1.8 cm or roughly 7.8 x 5.1 x 0.71 inches. Other notable features include a 3,800-mAh battery, 360° hinge, and a 10-point touch display.

The Tenku Pocket 8 micro laptop is already available for purchase in Japan, priced at around 94,800 Yen or roughly $608 USD. A US launch is unlikely, but folks who would still prefer an ultra-compact laptop can check out the GPD MicroPC 2 with a similar form factor, priced at around $770 on Amazon US.
