After the Sloth driving mode that is even more cautious than the Chill level, Tesla is now bringing a turbocharged FSD experience that keeps 85 mph speeds on the highways and zips through rush hour traffic. The new Mad Max mode is rolling out with the latest FSD 14.1.2 update.

Tesla has finally answered the call of many of its supervised Full Self-Driving feature users and released a more aggressive driving mode. The new Mad Max FSD mode comes with the latest 14.1.2 update and there the AI algorithm is taught to behave more like human drivers when they are in a hurry or in fast-paced city traffic like the one in LA, for instance.

It wouldn’t do anything illegal, of course, but the Mad Max FSD mode upgrades the heretofore most aggressive Hurry level and is meant for, as Tesla’s AI chief put it, “when you’re late to your flight, or to pick your kid from school.” The Mad Max mode changes lanes more often to slot into the fastest moving traffic without cutting other drivers off.

A more assertive FSD has long been on the wishlist of its daily users, as it would drive more like human drivers do when they are in a hurry, but the first FSD 14 iteration only brought an even more cautious Sloth mode.

The new mode ups the speed limit on the highway to 85 mph, but Mad Max would still stop fully at each and every stop sign instead of creeping up slowly and continue if there is no vehicle approaching in a rolling stop behavior which is rather expected from human drivers.

The new Tesla FSD 14 update has already proven to address many niche scenarios like getting the Tesla along a McDonald’s drive-through without touching the wheel, or choosing a parking location at the end of a trip. It also navigates tight spaces much better and can now zip through rush hour traffic with more confidence thanks to the new Mad Max mode.

With the FSD 14.2 update that is coming in a few weeks, drivers will be able to send their Teslas off to automatically pick a parking spot when and then summon them in front of the store when they are done with their shopping, Robotaxi style.
