U Mobile has officially launched ULTRA5G, its new brand identity for its 5G experience, at Berjaya Times Square (BTS), the telco’s headquarters. According to the company, the ULTRA5G name highlights its commitment to ultra-fast speeds, ultra-reliable connectivity, and ultra-wide coverage, aligning with Malaysia’s growing digital needs.

ULTRA5G Debuts at Berjaya Times Square

U Mobile users at Berjaya Times Square will now see the ULTRA5G identifier on their devices, thanks to the telco’s In-Building Coverage (IBC) deployment. This marks an important milestone in U Mobile’s strategy to ensure consistent 5G access across both indoor and outdoor environments.

To showcase its network capability, U Mobile conducted several demonstrations. Among them was Malaysia’s first 4K livestream of the Berjaya Times Square Theme Park roller coaster ride, Asia Pacific’s longest multi-inverted indoor roller coaster. The livestream highlighted ULTRA5G’s strong coverage, maintaining smooth video quality even as the ride hit speeds of up to 70 km/h. Other demonstrations included a mixed-reality showcase and a 5G network slicing demo, illustrating the network’s ability to deliver differentiated services with ultra-reliable performance.

Driving Digital Transformation with Next-Gen 5G

“U Mobile is proud to launch ULTRA5G, our brand new name for our 5G experience that is supported by our next gen network,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile. He added that the telco is committed to enabling digital transformation for consumers and enterprises, providing reliable streaming, immersive gaming, and high-quality video calls, even in crowded areas.

For businesses, ULTRA5G will enable advanced use cases such as extended reality (XR), robotics, smart cities, and Industry 4.0 automation. With deployment ahead of schedule, U Mobile is also prioritising indoor coverage to deliver Malaysia’s most consistent 5G experience.

Expanding 5G Coverage Nationwide

Beyond Berjaya Times Square, U Mobile has rolled out its 5G coverage at Penang Bridge 1, ensuring seamless connectivity across the full length of the bridge with only two towers.

The launch signals the start of U Mobile’s next-generation 5G rollout, with deployment targets aiming to achieve 80% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026. Strategic locations such as airports, hospitals, convention centres, and other high-impact areas will be prioritised in the coming phases.
