Alrighty folks, this is as cheap as I’ve seen a new OLED monitor in several months — even on Prime Day 2 (what I like to call Amazon Boogaloo), none of them got below the $450 mark. Today you can get a Redragon 27-inch, 1440p OLED monitor for just $409.99 from Amazon’s closeout site, Woot.com. That’s almost $200 off the retail price.

Redragon is a budget brand known for things like gaming keyboards and mice, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a monitor with this branding before. But based on the OLED panel specs — 27 inches, 2560×1440 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms response time, AMD FreeSync support — it’s using the same fairly generic part that LG has been pumping out by the truckload. That means it’ll be vibrant with fantastic contrast, and enough speed to make it competitive for fast-paced gaming.

I’m surprised to see that the monitor comes with a couple of extras, most notably a USB-C port with 65 watts of power delivery. That makes it a pretty decent companion for a laptop, though a high-powered model might not be able to get its fastest charging. You also get two USB-A ports and two HDMI and DisplayPort inputs — this is pretty darn good for a budget design! It’s on sale for the next couple of weeks, unlike some Woot deals or until stock runs out.

There’s just one thing that gives me pause. According to the Woot page, this monitor has a 90-day warranty, which is standard for refurbished sales… and yet this is marked as new, not refurbished. I’m guessing that this is a boilerplate situation, and someone at Woot hasn’t checked on this particular listing. Redragon’s official shop says it gives two years of warranty service, but only on sales from its shop directly.

So yeah, this is a bit of a roll of the dice if you’re worried about longevity. This AOC model, which I’m guessing is using a near-identical OLED panel, might be worth the extra $40 for a three-year warranty on the screen. But it’s your money — $40 is enough for a VESA monitor arm, which this thing supports. If neither of these monitors suits your fancy, then check out PCWorld’s roundup of the best monitors on the market.
