Xiaomi 17 Ultra falls behind Apple iPhone 17 Pro in camera test – NotebookCheck.net News
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is one of the best-equipped camera phones on the market, as Xiaomi offers a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a continuous-zoom lens and a 50MP main camera with a 1-inch sensor. However, the flagship cannot take the top spot in DxOMark’s rankings.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to launch in Europe in March. The smartphone scored with a well-performing camera in our in-depth review, but it also showed a few weaknesses. DxOMark has now also reviewed and analyzed the phone’s triple-camera system. The final score of166 points is good, but not a new record.
This score is only enough for sixth place in the current smartphone rankings, behind the Apple iPhone 17 Pro, which sits in fourth place with 168 points, and far behind the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, which holds the top spot with 175 points. More specifically, Xiaomi does not even get a top score in any category. The iPhone 17 Pro’s is mainly ahead due to the video issues on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
Because the auto exposure and white balance sometimes vary between individual frames, and the AF does not produce smooth focus transitions, the overall image can look a bit jittery. Aside from that, DxOMark mainly criticizes group photos in which not everyone is in focus. This is due to the shallow depth of field of the 50MP f/1.7 main camera with its large 1-inch sensor. A variable aperture could solve this problem, but Xiaomi has opted against that feature.

Despite these minor issues, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera performs great in most situations. Pictures have fine details with low image noise, colors look natural, and the bokeh simulation in Portrait mode is convincing. The 200MP periscope telephoto camera is also praiseworthy, as the continuous zoom from 75mm to100 mm and the relatively large 1/1.4-inch sensor produce excellent telephoto shots in that focal-length range.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
